'Clindit' - Condit is Clinton Without The Nerve (Christopher Hitchens nails it again)

"Clindit." The combo name has a vague but appropriate indecency to it. Even those who repudiate the parallelism are compelled to run a sort of check-off list to reassure themselves that there isn't any real comparison between Gary Condit and Bill Clinton. (And it must say something about the "legacy" of our most recent ex-president that this uncouth auction of comparable features is most forcibly suggested by mentions of the suborning of perjury and the obstruction of justice.) How far may the analogy be extended?

You've got to hand it to Hitchens. He is clearly the best and most honest writer/analyst that the left has.

Mr. Condit, with his frosted rug and gaunt narcissism, suggests a leaner and meaner type than the blowsy, gray-haired frump from Arkansas, whose gross appetites and manners were often held to be part of his charm. Yet in my book on Mr. Clinton I was able to cite three educated and respectable women who, without knowing of one another's existence, were able to give convincing and alarmingly similar evidence of having been physically assaulted and then raped by him. No accusation of anything so vicious has ever been lodged against the congressman from Modesto.

Both are reprehensible as potential playmates. I guess BillyBoy had a hard time convincing some of them....so he resorted to rape, the lying crminal. Condit must be good at convincing women because he's such a nothing to look at. No wonder he's trying to hang onto his seat. Only thing he's got going for him is the power of office. Post-Congress he's dead meat in Motel 6.

Yet somehow, with far less on his court docket, he has generated far less sympathy.

The "somehow" isn't hard to figure - Condit hasn't the media connections and the ability to extort their cooperation by threatening denial of "access" even where they weren't openly partisan in Clinton's favor. Nor has he the FBI files, although Bob Dornan suggests he may have access to some of their data. Nor does he have an army of ideological sycophants willing to grub in the muck rather than have "one of us" go down. Little criminals go to jail, big ones get rich.

The Left crafted Condidit's response, having long led their sheeple and him to believe the mantra they oft repeated: "Lying about sex is not an issue. Let's move on."

Who can blame Condidit for thinking it just might work? Perhaps it was because of its obvious amorality as much as despite it as we would see it.

What a constituency! Morals only an alley cat could respect.

That last point underlines the most critical difference: Mr. Condit has not used public money or public officials (let alone cruise missiles against Sudan) in order to protect himself from scrutiny.

The hell he hasn't. His staffers, whom he sent out to propogate his lies, are paid not by Mr. Condit, and not by the people of Modesto, but by the federal taxpayers.
