Dems Disappointed in Jeffords May Back Challenge

He was the toast of liberal Washington just a few months ago after jumping ship on the GOP. But Democrats have reportedly discovered that Vermont's Independent Senator Jim Jeffords "is impossible to work with" and now hope this term will be his last.

"According to one rumor making the rounds on Capitol Hill, the Democrats have discovered (he) really is as impossible to work with as the Republicans said he was," reports UPI's Capital Comment.

With the recent spate of retirement announcements by GOP Senators, Jeffords is no longer viewed as crucial to Democrat control of the Senate. Party faithful now whisper about giving their former hero the heave-ho by backing a possible 2006 Senate challenge by Vermont's Democratic Gov. Howard Dean.

All the more reason why the conservatives should not settle for anything less than what they want, they will pay the price on the outcome either way. (We conceded far too much to Jeffords demands)

The Republicans in that State were outraged that Jeffords ran as a Republican, raised funds as a Republican, and apparently always intended to jump ship.

I hope they rally around his Republican challenger with money, votes, help and victory!

All the Dems really wanted out of Jeffords was the ability to take control of committee chairs and agendas in the Senate - his vote didn't mean all that much by itself. With the retirement of Helms (among other things) they feel they can achieve that in other ways. Jeffords is about to experience Democratic "gratitude," - and it couldn't happen to a better guy.

I am just glad Ronald Reagan didn't have your doom and gloom outlook. Of course if he did, he would never have been elected to anything.
