I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the strange political propaganda that arrived yesterday with their Sunday paper.
In the slick, 16 page, Kenneth Cole clothing supplemental ad were the usual pouty, disaffected, gaunt women along with the usual vapid, gaunt, disaffected men with bad haircuts. Everyone is wearing the latest version of what Kenneth Cole considers fashion. And strangely, the models all look to have just come from a group lobotomy...even a baby.
Now, I know, none of this is either new or especially interesting, except for the fact that each fashion tableau is set in different setting of an American neighborhood, with a different politically correct theme. One double page photo contains a sign reading:
Welcome to AnyTown, USA
"98% over-caffeinated"-Kenneth Cole
Judgemental, but innocent enough. Then another has two male models at a construction site standing in front of a sign that reads:
BEWARE of FALLING ECONOMY
Weird for a company wanting folks to give up their money, I thought.
On another page the models are at a high school track field where the score board reads:
Again, sorta interesting, but not unusal for an AIDS-aware fashion designer. Then on the last page, three models pose at the corner of BUSH AVE & CHENEY LANE
The black male model sits under a DEAD END sign glowering at the camera.
I thought this was an interesting ad campaign since it seems to be directed at and targeted to either Democrats or Bush-hating fans of fashionless fashion.
I just wondered if anyone else noticed.
In the end, it's not about money. It's war.
But let one frame of a Bush campaign commercial (1/30th of a second) show a word fragment of "rats" and there's hell to pay.
You're right, Deb. It's war. Thanks for the post.
Perhaps if Cole and other "fashion" designers stopped hating women so much and started making clothes that women like to wear, they would find themselves a market again...
I give as little money as possible to any industry which supports this attitude...that means Hollywood, the recording industry, Martha Stewart, network television, etc.
I would encourage all people to actively pay attention to advertising and public comments of celebrities and designers. They have the right of free speech, but they do not have a right to my support.
Good analysis, Deb!
What irks me more than their collective agenda is how they PRESUME that anyone with any fashion sense should automatically subscribe to their views.
It always amazes me that so many clearly misogynistic homosexuals dominate the world of women's fashion. If anyone knew how to design clothes to make women feel comfortable, it would be women. If anyone knew how to design clothes to make a woman look attractive, it would be normal men who spend a good deal of their time admiring attractive women.
Much funnier seeing it than having it described, of course.
LOL Is he by any chance related to Jacque Penier the famous french designer whose clothing my uncle always bought? Ah yes, Kenneth Cole, just another overblown, overpriced clothing line we can gleefully avoid. Our 'designer clothes' seem to some from mostly Lands' End these days; they have the 'ahem' Womens' sizes for me and my daughter can get elastic waist jeans. She hates regular waist jeans, and absolutely cannot abide the low riders. She thinks it is stupid to go around with your midriff showing. What did I do to deserve such a sensible child? Now if I can only get her behind in gear to do her homeschool work!!
| If that isn't bad enough, look at this -- from Kenneth Cole's website. FREEP THIS LOUSY POLL. Click on the poll to the left to go to the URL and then click on "COLE POLE." |
