I guess the question is, if a party sacrifices any or all of it's core principles to survive, should we care that it survive at all? Not to say this sacrifice has to happen, in order to attract minorities to the party, because I don't think it has to. But, I think it's important not to backslide on these priorities. It's sort of like changing the way you act around someone you want to like you, is it worth it?

The author makes the mistake or at least is trying to make everyone believe that the only appeal a political party could possibly have is the race/ethnic appeal. Well, if this is the case, then I am surprised he doesn't advocate a 'white' party as well. Or does the author imply that what we have today is 2 competing white parties going to electoral war together flanked by their 'minority' allies?
If the author is correct, then say goodbye to your country. For now.
The idea that the 'latinos' should somehow be maintained as a totally distinct, culturally, politically and residentially ghetto-ed population is as racist and as demeaning to the latinos as they come.
Ever wonder why no one beleives it is crucial to appeal to the 'German' or 'Norwegian' voters?
What was W's share of the Russian electorate? How did he do among the English?

Once Mexicans are here, the two major parties will vie for their support. Ask youself, who is going to win that battle? The democrats will promise driver's licenses, social security and other government funding. What can the Republicans offer that will compete with these goodies? If they do compete with them is that good for the country?
We are being set up for the big fall!
