Based on early indications, most members of the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association may have been left unprepared for a building controversy over the organization's support of CARA.
CARA is the Conservation and Reinvestment Act, HR 701 and now S 1326, poised for a Congressional vote.
If passed, the Act would divert $3.125 billion per year, for 15 years, from the federal general revenue pool to a special fund set aside for public conservation and recreation purposes.
A great deal of the money would be devoted to land acquisitions by federal and state governments. Hundreds of millions of dollars would flow from that fund to one traditionally used to provide public hunting and shooting facilities and game conservation. Stating that as its reason, NRA's legislative staff supports the CARA proposition.

No right is safe when any right is under attack. The same people who have been attacking the Second Amendment are now attacking the First Amendment and calling it campaign finance reform". The government has a very bad record when it comes to property rights. Giving them more money to buy more property is a bad idea. The NRA should oppose this bill.

Don't look for the NRA to shive a git about the Constitution. They'd rather shill for the "enforcement" of thousands of unconstitutional laws.

It never hurts to let them know we don't like it. One day they might get the point.

CARA is a very bad idea. I agree that NRA has become a shill for several strange organizatons. I like what C. Heston has done and said as president of the organization but he can not reform the compromise artists. Compromise is why the 2nd is so sadly tattered, the First is slipping and property rights are being Kalamathed.

What are "they" gonna do with all this land ? They are gonna charge "me" a fee for it's lease, use, care, security, and repair versus just a tax to the individual state if "I" had owned it outright.
This is just one more revenue based program to make me "think" I live in a free country..........
NRA is infested with idiots right now who have set aside the constitution in support of such revenue based programs that make us "pay" in order to enjoy out constitutional freedoms. Heston was LBJ's "baldwin style poster boy" who helped drive the GCA of 68 down our throats and now we treat this weasel as our 2nd Amendment savior..........Fool me once, your fault, fool me twice............
These include , but are not limited to, hunting licenses, tax stamps, requirements for hunting leases, guides for out of state hunters in some places, Conceiled Handgun Licenses, etc etc yada yada yada.
I was raised with the ideal that conservation was everyones responsibility but yet just as we have freeloaders in the welfare system we have a few that abuse the wilderness if no one is there to stop em. Land owners can stop trespassers but when that trespasser is goobermint with unconstitutional laws that deprive them the means to work that land ( see Kalmath Fall's fiasco) then they "legally " steal that land from the common man and woman........
Thanks for the Bump SUSSA , Stay Safe.

I agree with everything you said above. However, I think that if enough members raise hell, the NRAwill back off this one.

The NRA can be so guilty of inside-the-beltway-constricted-mind-set ... we all need to write, write, write and call, call, call.
To: 2Trievers
Yep. The more calls and letters we send the better. We can still turn them in the right direction on this one.
