In 1979, when Westbrook wanted to boost the fortunes of his nonprofit hospice company, he used his connection with Dade state legislators to gain the passage of a last-minute law that established procedures for licensing the company. And when Westbrook decided to convert the nonprofit business to a for-profit one, he got legislators to pass a law exempting his company, and only his, from a law that prohibited hospices from being owned by a profitmaking business.

TYPICAL Liberal Democrat.....the hypocrisy is unbelievable!!!

Even my grandmother, a Florida resident and as apolitical as they come, was horrified by her actions

But the Democrats know how easy it is to scare the elderly. Social security has taken away the responsibilty (in Americans' minds) to care for their elderly family members. We have lost much of that family bonding. It has made it easier for us to move off to better job prospects and has left the elderly (in their minds and in many cases their circumstances)at the mercy of heartless scare tactics of the Left. Truth flies out the window when they go into the voting booth.

She's right to be asking about Peterson. If Reno wins I'm confident Bush will defeat her. If Peterson wins, however, all bets are off. JEB Bush is much less popular in Florida than most people realize and a Peterson candidacy will draw every vote Reno could get and plenty of otherwise Republican voters in North and Central Florida. This is increasingly understood by the Democratic leadership who are trying to fragment the left of center vote while keeping anyone who could draw votes from Peterson in the primary out of the race. Congressman Davis, who had been expected to run, decided to stay in the House. It is generally understood that, while he did so for a number of reasons, the big reason is that he was strongly encouraged to do so by the Democratic leadership who feared he might hurt Peterson.

I agree, this campaign is really about who can lick Bush.

Froma article:

"I think she can win it," Greer said. "If you could see the outpouring of support. . . . I have the feeling this will be a phenomenon, not a campaign, a happening that transcends normal political calculation."

LOL...but -- yes, I agree it will be a "phenomenon," in that: she will lose by the largest margin in FL history for a governor's race.

she will lose by the largest margin in FL history for a governor's race.

Back in Her Truck, Reno Jump-Starts Her Campaign-- [Excerpt] So far, Ms. Reno's approach seems to have caught on in some sections of the state. She has been met by packed audiences in heavily Democratic South Florida, where people call her refreshing, earnest, cool. But she is likely to be a tough if not impossible sell in the staunchly Republican Panhandle, if diners at the Coffee Cup Restaurant in Pensacola are any indication.

"I just couldn't vote for Reno," said Suzanne Peele, 56, who works part time for a trauma intervention program. "She seems like a principled person with good values, but I don't believe she has the leadership qualities that are needed. She didn't show enough independence from the president, and the Justice Department should stand apart from the executive branch." [End Excerpt]

If she wins, expect Hillary to run in 2004. All Hillary needs is Florida. She'll capture the other big states like Al Gore did and all she needs is one southern state. If Reno is the Governor, than Hillary will be the President of the United States come Jan 2005.
