[history]
The Democrats have lost their hold on the American electorate, especially among the young and the poor, and have ceased to be a majority party, according to a study of voter participation in the 2000 elections.
In a sharply critical analysis of the Democratic Party and its future, voter turnout specialist Curtis Gans himself a lifelong Democrat also said that the Democrats were "on the minority side of the cultural divide, in part, because of their advocacy of such things as gay rights, a woman's right to choose and gun control."

I wonder if anyone posted this on
demoRats underground? I'd be curious to read their responses. I tried to find it with no luck, but I'm not too familiar with navigating that site.

In the early 1960's there were 2 loyal democrat voters for every 1 loyal republican voter. Today it is equal between the two parties. But fewer people vote, there is more dissatisfaction with both parties. Lots of Americans have a strong dislike for both parties. The best reason for voting Republican is to stop the Democrats and the best reason for voting Democrat is to stop the Republicans.

Their rabid shift to mainstream communism is harder and harder for their lap-dog media to hide so the voters are turnig away from them.

"Since 1964, the Democrats have failed to get more than 50 percent of the votes cast with the one exception of 1976." Wha? Didn't Algore get more votes then W? I guess it was the Nader/Buchanan factor that put him below 50%. Still, if you give Nader to Algore and Buchanan to W, Algore/Nader got more than 50%.
To: Neanderthal
Algore/Nader got more than 50%. Gore's numbers were artificially inflated due to vote fraud. Remove the dead voters, non-resident voters, felon voters, multiple voters, and votes cast after the polls closed (St. Louis) and Gore may not have even won the popular vote.

I purely love the way preferential treatment, gun control and abortionist politics keep rising to bedevil the Left.
When the decision in Roe v. Wade was first announced, we had liberal commentators saying that it would only legalize first-trimester abortions already going on in back alleys, and conservative commentators saying it would lead to the legalization of infanticide. The conservatives were right.
When the National Firearms Act was passed, and various states and municipalities began to enact gun-control statutes of their own, conservative commentators cried that the Constitution was being chipped away and that thugs were being given an edge over the law-abiding, while liberal commentators chided them for doom-shouting and said the laws would merely insure that weapons were restricted to the trustworthy, sensible and well-trained. The conservatives were right.
When the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed, liberal commentators hailed it as the true emancipation of the American Negro. Conservative commentators predicted that it would lead to racial hiring quotas and Federally enforced discrimination on the basis of race. Hubert Humphrey actually stood on the floor of the Senate and promised to eat the bill in public if quotas should develop from it. He died just in time to save his dignity and his diet. Once again, the conservatives were right.
On every major aspect of public policy except the War on Drugs, conservatives have accurately predicted the disastrous outcomes of the policies proposed and supported by the Left. They've received absolutely no credit for it from the Old Media, which, being aligned with the Left emotionally and for professional reasons, would sooner admit to mass murder than to a mistake in analysis. But other people have been watching, and learning. The country is moving our way.
My hope is that it's not yet too late.

. . . and have ceased to be a majority party . . .
That's why they are particularly dangerous at the moment, IMHO. You can sense the desparation. Holding on to power through the normal democratic process is not an option for RATS anymore, as they will never give up agenda which has brought them so low in the eyes of the American public; in the future only voter fraud can bring them to power again, and only totalitarianism can keep them there.

"Democratic registration has fallen 30 percent, from a high of 48.3 percent in 1984 to 33.6 percent in 2000."
-----------
Well, I'm a statistic: I changed my Dem voter registration to "no party affiliation."
I just got so tired of the Dem Leadership always being out to lunch, and always out of touch with the real issues in education.
As a certified FL teacher and a lifelong Dem, it was tough for me to change my voter registration, but I have to admit I feel a lot better now: I am NOT Dem -- I am independent.

While the study's turnout numbers, showing a rise in voter participation last year, were widely reported when they were released last week, its criticisms of the Democratic Party were ignored by the news media.
I wonder why?
To: kattracks
It appears that the hollowed-out Demo party is showing a sign of breaking up. Reminds me of all those commies in Russia. They are getting old and die. The younger generation couldn't care less about communism. So our hardcore demos will also get old and die, whose place will be filled by the younger generation victimized by their deranged social policies, and broken families. First those in Judiciary and all those law faculties should get old fast and croak. These people are the biggest obstacle to the change. Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sean Wilentz, Alan Dershwitz, etc.
