DCCC CALLING? Ex-spook Simmons still caught up in spy games

Freshman Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.), a former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency, may have retired from the spy business years ago, but it seems he can’t escape from the cloak-and-dagger games of partisan politics.

During the August recess, Simmons’ office received a request for the congressman’s schedule from a woman who identified herself as a Sierra Club staff member. However, Simmons’ staff discovered that neither the Sierra Club’s national headquarters nor its state chapter had any knowledge of a person by that name.

Simmons’ aides also discovered that their boss was one of the targets of an effort by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) to turn up the heat on vulnerable Republicans over the recess.

The strange coincidence led Simmons’ aides to wonder if the DCCC may have been behind the mysterious phone call. But Kim Ruby, a DCCC spokeswoman, denied that it was.

To Simmons’ chagrin, the caller did not leave her phone number, foiling any efforts at subsequent investigation, and making the episode yet another unresolved spy story.

Do you honestly think that as X-CIA type would not have special monitoring equipment hooked to their tele? (Depending on the level security clearance) I think they probably have a good idea who called.
