Washington, Sept. 7 (Bloomberg) -- Democrats who control the Senate Armed Services Committee moved to prevent President George W. Bush from withdrawing unilaterally from the 1972 Antiballistic Missile Treaty.
In a 13-12 party-line vote, the committee passed a defense spending bill for next year that cuts funding for missile defense and includes language giving Congress the right to approve ad hoc the cost of any test activity that would violate the terms of the treaty, irrespective of whether the U.S. is still party to it.

Has anyone told them that the Soviet Union is no more? Better not, they might get a collective heart attack. Wait a minute here, what am I saying?
Hey Democrats...
THE SOVIET UNION IS NO MORE! IT HAS CEASED TO BE! BEREFT OF LIFE, IT HAS JOINED THE CHOIR INVISIBLE! THIS IS AN EX-COMMIE NATION!
The real story here is the Democrats and Republicans are in the pockets of the military-industrial complex. 328.9 billions dollars is being flushed down the toilet and nobody is saying a peep. This is the equation we should keep in mind: Cuts in defense=tax cuts=a booming economySorry friend, but this is the kind of pollyannish thinking that leads to dead American soldiers. The defense dollars we spend now are a downpayment for more living American soldiers later. More money for training and weaponry means fewer bodybags in the next war.
And for the U.S., there is always a next war. As Plato remarked, "Only the dead have seen the end of war."
Be Seeing You,
Chris
