Thank you for contacting me to share your views regarding the ability of foreign nationals to enter the United States and become legal residents. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments about this important issue.
As you may know, members of Congress and the Bush Administration are currently formulating proposals to reform the way immigrants enter our country. It is my strong belief that any such proposals must balance the interests of U.S. citizens, and our economy, while providing a fair, legal framework for those seeking to come to our Nation form other countries. I also believe that we should take humanitarian concerns into account, including considerations for those escaping oppressive governments and reuniting family members. However, we must clearly ensure that immigrants follow a fair and orderly system for entering the United States, and I have supported efforts to fund additional border control agents and provide security at our Nation's border crossings. For FY2001, the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) received an increase of $101 million for border control and management, including the hiring of 430 new agents. Additionally, the bill provided for $121 million for interior enforcement and the removal of deportable aliens.
While immigration is an important way of enhancing the diversity of our society, it is my view that we must continue to examine our immigration policy to ensure that our laws treat those who wish to come to our country fairly, and in accordance with the principles of justice that guide our government. I am not a member of the Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over immigration legislation, however, you may be assured that I will keep your views in mind should any relevant legislation come before the full Senate for consideration during the 107th Congress. Again, I appreciate your taking the time to contact me about this issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of further assistance.
With best regards,
Sincerely,
Paul Sarbanes
United States Senator (MD)
Today, I received this letter from the liberal Senator Sarbanes. Am I being naive, or is it possible that DemocRats are reading the polls, too? I had been worried that DemocRats would try to out-pander RepublicRats by offering amnesty to all 12 million illegal aliens, not just Mexicans. Doesn't this letter sound like they may try to split the anti-amnesty crowd off from the RepublicRats? Or am I dreaming?
When I wrote Sarbanes earlier this year, saying I wanted him to confirm Ashcroft, he wrote back and politely told me to pound sand.
Not e-mail. Snail mail. Nothing works as well as good ol' dead trees when it comes to getting politicians' attention. That, and being a constituent.
And, guess what? A lot of Hispanics don't support massive new immigration beacuse they have been around enough to understand that simply pumping more supply into the labor market (even the same color) has the end result of keeping what they earn at poverty level.
The globalists have been very successful at exporting manufacturing jobs to China. Construction and other service jobs cannot be exported so easily, so massive immigration is their only tool to keep wages down so the slaves don't get too uppidy.
By the way, I have an appropriate campaign slogan for the weasel traitor's next campaign: Out the door in 2004!
If all they want is votes, that's quite a possibility. I don't vote because I am not a citizen, but I am very dissapointed in Bush. He's much worse than my low expectations of him.
A vote for Republicans was a wasted vote, because it didn't signal the will of a more conservative part of the population for a leader representing them. Even more, a vote for Gore would have been better because Gore would be eaten alive if he proposed what Bush is now proposing.
Republicrats suck!
There is no need to enhance "diversity" because there can't be such a goal, and immigration shouldn't be viewed as a way to enhance it.
"Diversity is our strength" is a slogan right out of "1984".
Ay-ay-ay!
I find it amazing this typo made it into his letter.
In defense of the esteemed Senator from the Free State of Maryland, it was I that made the typo. I had to re-key his letter to post it.
That's exactly why I found his letter so interesting. He wouldn't say anything that wasn't Conventional Wisdom in the DemocRat Party. Notice that there's nothing in it about how unfair it would be to offer amnesty only to Mexicans and not others. I'm hoping that this signals DemocRats aren't going to try to one-up RepublicRats with a "I'll see your 4 million Mexicans and RAISE you 8 million Salvadorans, Chinese, Nigerians, Afghans. . .. "
At least someone contacted you. I haven't heard a darn thing from Bush. Two can play that game - he won't hear from me in 2004.
