Earlier in the day, the man had been released after completing a one-year sentence for sex abuse.

The Oregon State Police are still puzzled about the motives of Joel Damon Montoya, the just-released prison inmate who was caught trying sneak back into a Salem jail.

Police say 26-year-old Montoya was found Wednesday trying to force his way back into the jail by cutting a razor-wire fence.

Earlier in the day, Montoya had been released after completing a one-year sentence for sex abuse. Officials say they found a handgun, a hacksaw and bolt cutters on Montoya, as well as a white powdery substance.

I suspect the "white powdery substance" had something to do with his behavior.

Maybe he was just trying to get back to his supplier.

Bingo. That was my thought, before I even got to the end of the story. A supplier or a stash.

In the early Sixties, there was a British New Wave film starring Peter Sellers that had a plotline much like this. (I think the title was Boys' Night Out.)

Sellers plays a crook in prison who plans a major robbery. He and his mates decide to sneak out of prison, pull off the job, hide the loot and then return to prison before their escape is noticed. After all, their alibi is that they were in prison when the job was pulled, right?

Isn't it obvious? He downloaded "How to break out of prison" and didn't realize he was dyslexic.

He left his stash in a secret compartment, maybe a loose brick in his cell wall.

He probably found out he had it easy living in a free room and getting free food.
He broke back in to escape the taxes.
