I read this book when it came out...an amazing story of tragedy and heroism. There were such contrasts between the performance of the two battalions involved. The 1st Bn, having trained together as a unit, performed well under extreme pressure. The 2d Bn, having alot of new faces in country, got a shelacking...says alot for unit cohesion...I don't go to many movies, but I will go see this one...thanks for the ping!

This book and movie are dear to my heart. I was there when the 1st Cav left Fort Benning and lived through all of this there (as an observer...not a soldier) when most Americans were unaware of what was going on.

My husband and I sat behind Col. Moore and Joe Galloway at the 1st Cav Ft. Hood reunion service last year. I could only think of what they lived through, and the impact of the notoriety they will receive after the movie came. The book was well-received, but the movie will reach more people. I also could only think of those who lost their lives or had their lives forever altered by this one battle. I, for one, have thought about these losses for most of the days of my life.
