A family-values advocate long critical of homosexual political activists is scheduled to make a groundbreaking presentation to 500 homosexual media professionals today, urging them "to avoid the temptation to be 'gay advocates' on the job."
Peter LaBarbera, senior policy analyst for Culture and Family Institute, an affiliate of Concerned Women for America, will address the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association conference in Dallas. The homosexual journalists' organization "works from within the news industry to foster fair and accurate coverage of lesbian and gay issues and opposes newsroom bias against lesbians, gay men and all other minorities," according to its website.
Currently, pro-homosexual media bias in the "mainstream media" is "out of control," said LaBarbera, who added that he hopes the panel will be a first step toward regaining balance in media coverage of the controversial issue. "Too many in the media are allowing their story content to be dictated by GLAAD [Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation] and other vocal homosexual groups," he said. In fact, as WorldNetDaily.com reported, at last year's convention in San Francisco participants and speakers openly questioned the necessity of bothering to seek comments and viewpoints of those opposing the homosexual political agenda. Thanks for the bumps! Looks like Argh is ready to party in the Smokers Lounge, huh? ;-) I'll probably stick my head in there and see how thick the smoke is myself here in a little bit - if my lungs can handle the abuse! LOL
Have a lovely day!
From ABOUTgladd -- A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO GLAAD:
"...GLAAD's impact on the media is far-reaching. Not only has GLAAD changed the way that gays and lesbians are portrayed on the screen and in the news, GLAAD has also become a major source of information for decision makers in both the entertainment and news media. In 1992, Entertainment Weekly named GLAAD as one of Hollywood's most powerful entities and The Los Angeles Times described the group as possibly the most successful organizations lobbying the media for inclusion. GLAAD has not only reached industry insiders, but has also impacted millions through newspapers, magazines, motion pictures, television and visibility campaigns..."
...GLAAD was formed in New York in 1985 and began by protesting The New York Post's blatantly offensive and sensationalized stories about AIDS..."
...In the beginning, battles were hard-fought. It wasn't until 1987, after a meeting with GLAAD, that the New York Times changed its editorial policy to use the word "gay."..."
...In 1994, the New York and Los Angeles chapters merged to form a national organization that would allow GLAAD not only to continue its work with the major news and entertainment media, but would also allow it to work with more local media across the country through the creation of Media Resource Centers..."
In pursuit of its mission, GLAAD focuses on five main strategies:
2. To work directly with media professionals to improve their understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community by providing accurate information and offering seminars as part of the Outreach to Media Professionals program...
4. To promote lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Visibility by designing and implementing public education campaigns with positive lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender images..."
From The Overhauling of Straight America:
"...And when we say talk about homosexuality, we mean just that. In the early stages of any campaign to reach straight America, the masses should not be shocked and repelled by premature exposure to homosexual behavior itself. Instead, the imagery of sex should be downplayed and gay rights should be reduced to an abstract social question as much as possible. First let the camel get his nose inside the tent -- and only later his unsightly derriere!
Where we talk is important. The visual media, film and television, are plainly the most powerful image-makers in Western civilization. The average American household watches over seven hours of TV daily. Those hours open up a gateway into the private world of straights, through which a Trojan horse might be passed. As far as desensitization is concerned, the medium is the message -- of normalcy...
...In no time, a skillful and clever media campaign could have the gay community looking like the veritable fairy godmother to Western Civilization..."
