Look for the Scientologists behind this.
This crap is highly addictive and is routinely prescribed to people who are suffering from routine depression of the variety that I always cured myself of by going on vacation, or smoking a joint, or (God forbid!) a period of introspection and prayer. I say more power to these lawyers, they should sue the drug companies for misrepresenting this junk and the medical establishment for prescribing it to people who aren't clinically depressed.
It also points out the sheer hypocrisy of the War on Some Drugs. Government:"Don't you dare smoke a joint to escape your troubles, but here, take this incredibly addictive pill that the FDA approved and escape your troubles."
If the tobacco companies can be held liable for cancer when smokers know the risk, the drug companies ought to be held accountable for suppressing the overwhelming evidence that SSRIs are linked to scores of horrifyingly violent incidents.
The only explanation there can be for you knowing all that without a lick of evidence is that you are God.
May I please worship you on Sunday?
You have to come off of these drugs very carefully. I have known many people who have had difficulty doing so, but all of them were successful. I think the problem is that no matter what the studies show (99% can fairly easily wean themselves off the drugs), that leaves 1% who will get f*cked up on the way down.. and being that SSRI's are the most prescribed meds out there, that 1% (or whatever that number is) is going to be quite large.
My problem with these drugs isn't neccessarily with the drug companies (although of course they want as many users as possible, just like tobacco companies. But hey, its a free country..). Its with physicians and PEOPLE who jump to them so easily.
On the other hand, I know of people who get tremendous benefit out of these drugs, so hey, you gotta know what you are doin..
BINGO!!!!!!I have no doubt about that.
I won't.
I realize I am letting out waaaay too much information about myself here, but I have been diagosed with and suffer infrequent, but lengthy, bouts of clinical depression.
I have been on an SSRI (sertraline). Three times in the past 6 years for an average of 9 months. I tapered on them and off of them with no real side-effects.
I am a successful, God-fearing, productive member of society. I don't hear any voices or want to hurt myself or others.
I have never attempted suicide, but without the SSRI's to help straighten out a definite chemical imbalance in my brain, life would be impossible for long stretches of time. Unfortunately, I would be non-functional....
Banning them would be the equivalent of banning life preservers on boats because someone floated in the water long enough to freeze to death!
It's all in your mind.
Yes, and with the help of an SSRI I got it all out of my mind and got myself back.
Probably wasn't the drug for them. I hope they got the help they needed. I found something that worked for me.
The drug is made by the same company that brought us the gay drug of choice (and immune suppressant), Poppers (Amyl Nitrite) and AZT.
Hmmmmm, that's a weird comment. I think I'm starting to see the problem here....
There are millions of people suffering from glaucoma and cancer who believe that marijuana relieves their suffering, but they are not allowed to use it. What makes you so special? Because the drug you require is one with a patent that MegaChemCo makes billions on?
Yeah, I told my 80 year old father that he needs to see a lawyer about his near-death experience from the use of Baycol.
He followed his doctors instructions but Baycol almost killed him anyway.
