Coon-ass: Term affectionately used to identify SOUTHERN Louisiana natives. I do not know the origins of the word, a little help from a native coon-ass, might be in order.
Caution, NOT ro be used north of Alexandria LA., these folks prefer cajun.

There is a difference in attitude and lifestyle between the people of north and south Louisiana, the differences being too great to list in this post. Let's just say the whole state parties, but the south does it a lot better.

When I first came to Louisiana last winter, I was quickly befriended at work by a Billadeaux and a Duhon. I was quickly advised that I-10 is the dividing line, south of which the term "Coon-ass," is a term of endearment, north of which, use of the term may get you whooped. Both gentlemen have sponsored my RCA (resident coon-ass) application, and I should be eligible for that status in about a year...

GOD bless ya' Mister Wilson...you've brought happiness to countless numbers of your fellow humans. I'm pretty sure GOD will have been pleased by the life you also seemed to enjoy.
