I'll share over cyberspace. Peach cobbler with a bit of vanilla ice cream, sitting on my back patio. A little bit of heaven (except the kitties will be leaping up for their share...)

I had to get rid of some peaches, that is why. Everybody's trying to get rid of peaches and pears and everything else (except tomatos..grimace). I have recipes for coulis, fritters, pies, breads, sauces, marinades, and lots more stuff for those pesky "WE HAVE TOO MUCH!!!!" items.

That is what we ate over the weekend at the cabin. Everyone brought their bounty from their gardens. Yum. My dad's pear tree had three pears on it, and the apricot tree had no apricots. He gave me almost a bushel of peaches off it (my mom is out of town, so I am reaping the benefits this year.) And still to come are plums and grapes...

For those who haven't seen this: Teachers to Remove Wall Decorations
kayak pinged a few of you. This is in my school district, and I know some of the teachers interviewed in the article. This is stupid. What's a classroom without projects and decorations on the walls? These bureaucratic busybodies obviously have never heard of common sense.

Ernmmmmm. Sigh. I really can't eat that stuff anyway because of the sugar, and I'm down to one cup of (REAL) coffee a day, but I miss real, honest-to-goodness desserts. Sigh. grin! On the up side, I can make and feed that kind of stuff to all the family, and they seem to like it.

I've been peeling pears all afternoon and putting them up. I made a Pear Crisp out of some of them. It turned out really good.
My dear f-i-l planted the pear tree before he died. We are reaping the benefits. Lord, I miss that man!

That is one of my memories growing up, canning pears with my mother. 95 degree heat, pear juice up to my armpits, stickiness, and sneaking bites whenever she wasn't looking. I hated every moment of it, but I'm so glad she was persistent and taught us how to can and preserve food from the garden.

Ok...guyz and goils...I know you must be tired of me and latest Kfalls Tirade, but you just have to read this one...
Now tie all this together..the farmers can't get water coz of the fish, California can't get electricity because of the price, and now they can't get water because of the drought...
I saw a thread, and I'm tooooooo disgusted and irate to search it out now, describing how the power crisis in Cali was not really a crisis and was a "non-event". NOW THIS:
Californias Water Crisis/Drought

i want that coolie recipeCoulis. My dear, coulis. Pronounced kool-eeh. Snerk!
Pound for pound of fruit and sugar, few tablespoons of lemon juice, tiny pinch of salt, and cook down to desired consistency. You might need to bash the fruit down if it's tough. (not pears, they ooze flavor when ripe, when green... Doc will tell you that you'll get over it). Cornstarch can be added ( pre-mixed in a little cold water) if it's too thin, but you should probably be patient. Strain the result.
That's coulis for every fruit in the world. Exceptions may exist. GRIN!

Well, silly me. I gave all my canning jars to my m-i-l, so I am putting these in the freezer.
I didn't raise a garden this year so I didn't think I would need them. We kinda loan the jars back and forth. Oh well, that's what I get for thinking. :-)
