I'm with you and DoughtyOne. A short notice letting registered posters know that the Quarterly Fundraiser has begun, reminding everyone that Free Republic is supported totally by donations from those who frequent the site and pointing the way to the secure credit card link or address if anyone wishes to send in a donation would not be considered "spam" in my opinion. Better yet would be a notice on the home page announcing the Quarterly Fundraiser with appropriate links and a link on other pages.

Many people do not have a great deal of time to spend on Free Republic and can easily miss the fundraising threads unless they are specifically looking for them. All the volunteers on these threads can use a little extra help to get the information out to FReepers and Lurkers everywhere.

I couldn't agree with you more, Angelwood. Instead of thinking of an email from JimRob (or just from FreeRepublic if JimRob would rather not have his name attached) as spam, I think most people would take it as a compliment.

There are far too many freepers and lurkers who have no idea of our financial situation, and who must assume that running a web site such as this doesn't cost anything. They need a bit of educating on the subject. A friendly email should go a long way towards helping them "get it"! I think many of these people have no idea that they are "freeloading" on the contributions that 2% of the membership donate.

In other words, JimRob, et al--my vote is to go for it!
