Rubio has spoken to White House officials about stepping down, according to Bloomberg.
Rubio’s office denied the report, with State Department spokesperson Dylan Johnson telling Bloomberg, “this is complete and total fake news based on the word of anonymous sources, benefitting a tabloid. The secretary has not discussed leaving his role and he will continue to proudly serve in President Trump’s administration long after this fake news is revealed as yet another baseless hoax.”
Bloomberg’s report follows an earlier report in British outlet The Independent that cited anonymous sources saying Rubio is considering resigning.
Rubio is frequently floated as a potential 2028 presidential contender, and speculation has been raised this week whether he could step down to create distance between himself and President Donald Trump—who is widely blamed for Tuesday’s GOP losses—before announcing a presidential campaign.

I wouldn’t blame him if he did. It’s a grueling job, especially since he has four of them. The Travel is immense. The work hours are atrocious. Don’t forget President Trump is very demanding which Rubio has achieved what the president wanted but it’s still hard work. I think two years is about the limit.
It would be a good setup to 2028. Either Rubio or DeSantis should be the next to make a run.

This situation is reminiscent of the relationship between Longstreet and Lee after Gettysburg. Longstreet argued futiley against the great general’s decision to launch Pickett’s charrge against the elevated Union center. The defeat sealed the fate of the Confederacy. Afterwards Lee was so troubled he transferred Longstreet and hos corp to Tennessee. Longstreet soldiered on and never publicly criticized Lee while the war raged. Suspect Vance and Rubio feel the same. They argued against the American involvement in this disasterous Iran war that resulted in thr destruction of Trump’s regime. They continue to serve but remain conflicted and frustrated. Hopefully they will do what they can to mitigate the damage and begin a revival.
