President Donald Trump may have made the decision to launch the war that tanked voters’ support for the GOP and dealt them a midterm shellacking. But the historic losses are accelerating a push for someone else to take the fall: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
And the House could vote as soon as next week to impeach the Pentagon’s top leader.
Many Republican lawmakers and allies alarmed by Tuesday’s wipeout are moving swiftly to pin blame for the election results on Hegseth, arguing behind the scenes that he played a chief role in convincing Trump to attack Iran with no exit strategy — and no plan for managing the inevitable political fallout.

I don’t see how Trump won’t put up a fight behind the bully pulpit in Hegseth’s defense given that Trump told Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, “You’re my best guy. You’re the best guy I have,” on November 2, 2026.
And it must be remembered that Trump has said many times he only hires “the best people”
As well, if Trump doesn’t come to the defense of Hegesth, it will go a long way towards validating what Massie has said about how Trump was making a big mistake on Iran, and given Massie tried already to push for Hegseth’s impeachment with Trump then standing with Hegseth and not turning on him in public.

Ultimately Trump wanted to do a “deal” with Iran even though the Strait of Hormuz was not secured.

Pete has a target on his back—they will do all in their power to undermine him and boot him from his office. He is second only to Hitler-Trump as a person to turn into a villain. The Dems will NEVER work with Trump! How can you work with Hitler? 2027 will be a year of constant fighting between the house and president. Trump shouldn’t even try to do a state of the union speech they will boo, rip up his papers, mock anything he says and make it a humiliation. They have ONE Goal-—destroy Trump at all costs.
President Trump said earlier today that “Pete Hegseth would be very popular as Tennessee Senator “( to replace Marcia Blackburn’s Senate seat).
Hegseth should start doing pushup competitions on Youtube. That will help bolster his support.
