Could Texas turn blue? Senate race puts nearly 40-year Democratic drought to the test

HOUSTON — Could Texas really turn blue? This year’s U.S. Senate race is testing whether Democrats can win a seat the state has kept in Republican hands for nearly four decades. Democrat James Talarico is facing Republican Ken Paxton in a contest that has renewed attention on Democrats’ chances of winning statewide. Texas last elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 1988, when Lloyd Bentsen won reelection. A Talarico victory would end that 38-year drought.

Trump should have listened to his own inner voice about not starting another damned Mideast War.

Yep. Instead, he listened to the voices around him.

We lost the governorship as well. A democrat Congress will defund border control and the State of Texas will roll out the welcome mat for illegals.

Texas will get ten million new arrivals in the next two years.

The Texas economic boom is about to end.

Democrats will get their blue wall at the presidential level.

Trump will spend the next two years cutting deals with Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, and trying to make the 2028 election all about himself. Democrats will happily oblige.

This isn’t as bad as the post Watergate election, but it may be worse than the Obama deification in 2008.

The democrats will spend the next two years smashing everything in sight, and with Trump still in the White House and still carrying on like a lunatic, the GOP will take all the blame.

Does Iran need to brace for another Truth Social blitz tomorrow, or will Trump sign an agreement ceding control of the Gulf to Iran and call it a victory?

President Trump and the GOP are paying a huge price for ignoring the alt-right faction of the MAGA coalition. You need the younger voters, especially young men, who voted for him because he represented a potential for positive change in their lives. You can denounce Thomas Massie, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Candace Owens, et. al., but don’t expect the millions of people who listen to their podcasts to support you. Higher energy and fertilizer prices and their effects on gasoline, diesel, food, and other commodities were triggered by the Iran War. The mullahs should not have nuclear weapons, and Iran is a proxy for Russia and China. However, Trump miscalculated his odds for a quick victory and the Iranians partially shut down the Straits of Hormuz. The lower middle class and working class voters who supported Trump in the hope of better economic conditions were disappointed. Between a disaffected alt-right, blue collar voter desertion, and the RINO faction defecting to the Democrats, you wind up with the disaster we are witnessing.

Nonsense. Not passing the Save America Act doomed the House and
Likely the Senate.

We have to start thinking about 2028 as the Ds will be there with a vengeance. I think that even though Vance was right in opposing the Iran war, either Rubio or Gov. De Santis may be far better candidates.

You can’t beat a negative with a negative. Yes, the Democrats will be worse, but campaigning on those themes didn’t work in Texas and other states as well.

Texans and others can’t figure out a Democrat economic policy vs a Republican economic policy? Seriously?

“A democrat Congress will defund border control” There will also be amnesty for illegals who are already here. Even those with criminal records (perhaps including felonies) will be offered amnesty. I predict a huge expansion of what criteria will allow one to qualify for refugee and asylum status.

Well said, sir. This is the heart of the issue, in my opinion.
"Vote for the lesser of two evils" doesn't work anymore.
You have to run good candidates, or people will stay home...or vote third party.
