Türkiye is deploying two naval frigates to Somalia, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence announced this week, in a move that underscores Ankara's expanding military footprint in the Horn of Africa as it simultaneously pursues a major maritime boundary agreement with Egypt... The deployment follows an October 24 meeting in Ankara between the commander of the Turkish Land Forces and his Somali counterpart, during which the two sides discussed strengthening defence cooperation, military training and security...
Just days earlier, Turkish Ambassador Ferhat Alkan announced during Somali National Fisheries Week 2026 in Mogadishu that a Turkish research and fishing vessel was on its way to Somalia to support the development of local fisheries...
Puntland issued a formal statement in July 2026 rejecting any Turkish maritime operations off its coastline, barring SomTürk from conducting fishing activities within Puntland's territorial waters without prior approval...
On the same day the ships departed for Somalia, the Turkish National Defense Ministry announced that the Sea of Friendship-2026 Exercise would take place in Alexandria, Egypt, on November 4-9, with the participation of Turkish and Egyptian naval units. The exercise will include surface and anti-submarine warfare, air defense operations and underwater offensive training...
The deployment of the two frigates comes as Somalia's security transition is under strain. Uganda has begun withdrawing its troops from the country, and the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission faces a funding crisis following the United States' decision to end support for the UN logistics office that sustains it.

I've found myself on rte. 504 a lot today/tonight.
I. spent a wonderful week in Turkey before Islamist Erdigan took over. People all over the country were happy to see Americans. Veiled women were rare in the cities and in country towns they didn’t care that I didn’t wear one.
I really hate to see what Turkey has become.
To counter Somaliland and Israel becoming allies?
Türkiye, a Turkey by any other name.
“The deployment follows an October 24 meeting in Ankara between the commander of the Turkish Land Forces and his Somali counterpart, during which the two sides discussed strengthening defence cooperation, military training and security”
Erdogan’s Neo-Ottoman empire taking shape.
Now Somalis are part of it.
ISLAMISTS ARE CARRYING OUT A WAR.
Chaos in Europe, Africa, the UK, Australia, Canada and the US.
AND they’re pushing it here……trying to gain more government positions.
Time to kill their plan! NOW.
It gives them something to do other than harass Greece; it’ll do a job that the US had probably been doing and has now stopped; and Erdogan is trying to work a deal with Egypt, and the Egyptians don’t want instabilities that screw with their main revenue stream, the traffic that uses the Suez Canal; and of course, given their recent alliance with the Saudis, it’s probably a moneymaker.
Future artificial reefs?
Around 10 years ago the Rotary Club I was a member of had a speaker who was a Turkish journalist. He had barely escaped Turkey with his life when Erdogan’s thugs basically took over the media operation he had been a part of. It was clear Turkey was a totalitarian operation with no respect for freedom of speech.
Of course, we now see our NATO friends like Britain and Germany acting not too much differently when it comes to freedom of speech.
Turkiye? “Turkish Ministry of National Defence”
Shouldn’t that be Turkiyeish? I mean, if you are going to eff around with spelling...
It's their official name. I was a bumped when the CCP changed Peking to Beijing. Be glad that Egypt doesn't insist on Misr or Masr (which is the Semitic form, as seen in the OT, Mizraim.
Understood. But in good ole American, its Turkey.
Just like Italia is Italy and “Frahnce “ is “Frantze” in good ole American. Like the rest of the article: in good ole American...
