Democrats could change Electoral College if they win 4 state legislatures: election expert

Democrats could change the Electoral College to elect presidential candidates by the national popular vote if they win the majority in four state legislatures, warns an election expert.

Altering the Electoral College to follow the national popular vote would take power away from the states in electing the president, Trent England, founder and executive director of Save Our States, told The National News Desk on Wednesday.

Each state’s political parties nominate people to be presidential electors for that state prior to Election Day. In 48 states, presidential electors for the Electoral College are chosen by a “winner-take-all" system, meaning that the political candidate with the most votes statewide receives all the state’s electors.

However, 18 states and Washington, D.C., have joined the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC), which would assign their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the national popular vote when it takes effect, according to the National Popular Vote website.

How would they determine who “won” the national popular vote? Could they force a non-participating state to conduct a recount if it was close? What a joke.

If that wins, the big blue cities will rule the country. We’ll no longer be a federation of equal states. What a disaster.

Could SCOTUS find a basis to invalidate this overthrow of the Constitution?

If we can get enough state legislatures to allow slavery, we Democrats can bring back slavery (just like in the good old days).

If we can get enough state legislatures to take away the vote from women, we can ...

There is this thing called the Constitution. Maybe they have never heard of it.

This will be after they'll pack the Supreme Court.

National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC)

I believe the Constitution does not allow for compacts between the states, but that’s just a minor quibble for dems, tho’ SCOTUS, as presently constituted may beg to differ.

The reality is that if this is in effect and a democrat loses the popular vote, but stands to win in the E.C. dem governors will convene an emergency session to change the law about how their state awards E.C. votes. State legislatures are free to award the E.C. however they wish. Does anyone really think the dems wouldn’t do such a thing?

They want to eliminate the electoral college so New York and California would determine who was president. most states would be irrelevant.

Of course. This is a direct violation of the Constitution.

If they do not, we can fire the SC justices that voted to support this - immediately - and replace them with SC justices that will follow the Constitution. We can also pass a law prohibiting their ruling and prosecute them immediately for the crime of ruling this way.

Firing SC justices? Ex post facto laws?

Once you change the Constitution without following proper procedures, all bets are off!

Article One, Section 10, Clause 3:

“No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.”

From Wiki: “ According to the Court, the Compact Clause requires Congressional consent only if the agreement among the states is “directed to the formation of any combination tending to the increase of political power in the States, which may encroach upon or interfere with the just supremacy of the United States””

There’s questions as to if this is constitutional.

New York and California would determine who was president. most states would be irrelevant.

And with California’s penchant for take weeks to count the vote, votes would ‘found’ that would change the national popular vote total.

So a blue state would have sent their electors to vote for Trump since he won the popular vote ? I don’t see this “plan” lasting too long.
