In pursuing stories on the 'evangelical industrial complex,' Julie Roys sees journalism as a 'sacred calling' {Chicago}

For a country that over the last 25 years has come to associate religious scandal with the Catholic church, Julie Roys is here to tell us something:

Other Christian churches also have their fair share of failings, whether involving sexual abuse, financial misconduct or some other hypocrisy running counter to Jesus’ teachings.

The proof is Roys’ news web site called Roys Report that regularly publishes articles — many investigative in nature — on troubles in evangelical Christian congregations and organizations.

“There are wonderful pastors out there,” Roys said. “But there are a lot of bad ones, too.”

“It’s not just a few bad apples — it’s a system.”

One of her news site’s recent journalistic focal points has been Wheaton College, an evangelical school in the far west suburbs that’s sometimes referred to as the “Harvard of Christian colleges.”

Roys Report published a series of blistering stories this year about Dennis Massaro, a former Wheaton administrator who has been accused of sexually abusing male students years ago, and who was at the school when Roys was an undergraduate in the 1980s.

“Ironically, my Intro to Journalism professor at Wheaton College, the late Paul Fromer, taught me that journalism was a sacred calling to pursue and report the truth,” Roys said. Fromer also edited books by the college’s most famous graduate, the late evangelist Billy Graham. “He pointed to the Gospel writer Luke as the first journalist. Luke was not a first-hand witness to the events he documented.”

Some will read this article and see a wolf.

Some will see a sheepdog/warrior.

Which do you see?

Is the leader of the White House Faith Office and Trump’s long time personal minister, being looked into?

I have no problem with Christian “megachurches” being investigated, even if its by a Leftist journalist. Most of us will be able to separate the legitimate reporting from the fake scandals. And there is a lot to criticize with megachurches. The longer they go without investigation, the more corrupt they become. So its good to call out the scams before we get to the situation we had in the late 1980s where the entire Evangelical world was discredited by the massive scandals that had been brewing for a long time. The fact that liberal reporters don’t investigate other religions doesn’t mean that megachurches shouldn’t be investigated. It just means that conservative journalists need to take up the slack.

It’s even worse. Almost all Christians confess that they are sinners.

Honest, real investigative journalism rarely exists today. These “journalists” for the most part are biased propagandists. Witness how the New York Times and the MSM refused to report or investigate the Hunter laptop. They were so biased that they aided and abetted the election of a demented, perverted, lifelong criminal’s ascendancy to the Presidency. Immense harm has been done to the American people and the American nation. This woman may be honest but she is surrounded by dirty colleagues that throw into question anything she writes.
