A Post analysis found thousands of messages from right-wing influencers pushing new theories for why, if Democrats win, the elections can’t be trusted.
President Donald Trump and his allies have spent the final weeks before the midterms showering his supporters with a relentless stream of doubt about the legitimacy of the election, priming them to question results if Republicans lose.
In court, the administration is telegraphing its readiness to challenge results based on alleged fraud. In podcasts and social media posts that are delivered nonstop to Trump’s core backers, right-wing influencers are telling supporters to expect cheating.
Nearly 600 high-profile, right-wing social media accounts, podcasts and other online media have published more than 7,000 statements questioning the election’s integrity so far this year, a Washington Post analysis found. That messaging has, in particular, pushed overstated claims that noncitizens are on voter rolls and that mail-in ballots enable widespread fraud — themes that are twice as prevalent as they were during the 2024 election cycle, The Post’s analysis found.
Voting by noncitizens is rare, as is fraud involving mail ballots. Most cases involve small numbers of votes, not the large number that would be needed to change election outcomes. And those few perpetrators typically face criminal charges.
The focus on noncitizens and state voter rolls appears to have overtaken claims about voting machines that were prominently pushed by conservatives in past elections. Assertions that voting machines rigged elections have fallen apart in court, and Fox News reached a $787.5 million defamation settlement in 2023 with Dominion Voting Systems after it aired false statements about its equipment.
Allegations about voting machines and vote-counting procedures still linger, and some Trump supporters are demanding that states be forced to hand-count ballots. But these arguments have been largely supplanted by...

That’s the Post’s job, isn’t it?
sounds like the Washington comPost is nervous.
Russia collusion! Russia collusion! Russia collusion!
😂 The dems are sowing their own doubt. Prayers up for the nation. Nearly 80 years now and I’ve never seen things this divided. But probably because we’re not special.
The Post is still not going to care about ballots being sent to the house of a Soros influencer in Maryland or ballots being left at a homeless shelter in Los Angeles.
“Laura Meckler , Chris Hacker and Patrick Marley”
Three to write shiiiite like this?
No wonder the WaPo is losing so much money.
Maybe the Post should ask why Democrats don’t want voter ID if they don’t cheat.
They asserted, without evidence (that refuse to look for).
this article brought to you by the “Trump colluded with Russia” cabal....
Mm-hm. Care to share those numbers and how you came about them?
You can’t find anything you don’t look for.
The “POST” is once again showing itself to be a POS!
That is such a joke. The Democrats have been talking about Trump making the vote illegitimate for months. Now they’re go8ng to try to make it a Republican conspiracy? Good grief.
“Trump sowing doubt about election security” is code for “Trump pointing out that Democrats steal elections”.
When republicans win, WAPO questions it elections.
When democrats win, WAPO questions republicans.
How is the Washington Post effectively any different than when state actors run psyops to get their way, other than the fact that they aren’t a state actor?
You’re kidding, right? Washington Post has been the CIA’s mouthpiece since Watergate.
How the Washington Compost and its subversive media allies are sowing doubts about the upcoming election. There I fixed the headline!
Wait, I thought a massive Blue Wave was coming, why are they worried?
You sure about that?
