...The City Council quietly passed a controversial bill Thursday that would give nonprofits the first shot at buying up distressed Big Apple properties if it becomes law.
The “Community Opportunity for Purchase Act,” or COPA, requires some sellers to delay putting their properties on the open market for 90 days while “community land trusts” and other nonprofits have an exclusive shot at buying them up....
...Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens) called the bill’s initial proposal an “attack on private real-estate ownership” in the five boroughs.
“We’re sliding headfirst into a communist dystopia where the government and their apparatchik developers own all the property, and the rest of us get forced into perpetual rentorship, and this legislation is helping to get us there even quicker,” Ariola said at the time.

I wonder who owns those non profits.................
Therefore, set the asking price at triple the going market for said 90 day period.
The government basically owns everything. That’s part of the secret of property taxes — you never really own it, and you have to constantly pay for it. And now a law like this governs who you will be allowed to transfer “your” property to. The government gets the last word.
We are very far from where the Founders wanted us to be.
COMMUNISM!
Mostly politicians. It’s how they get paid for being in office.
The owners of the non-profits that profit the most.
Some profiters are more profitable than other profiters.
“No state shall...deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the law.”
“EQUAL HOUSING OPPORTUNITY”
I'm guessing commies own many of the non-profits and anti-American totalitarian sh*ts like George Soros own the rest.
On casual observation, it would seem to me that Ariola is right.
“””” nonprofits have an exclusive shot at buying them up..”””
So these nonprofits will be like Quality Learing Centers who defraud the Feds and buy up property!!!!
Where else are they going to get the money????
Unless, of course, non-profit properties never require municipal services that are funded by property taxes.
Unconstitutional.
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the COPA they fell in love..
"The “Community Opportunity for Purchase Act,” or COPA, requires some sellers to delay putting their properties on the open market for 90 days while “community land trusts” and other nonprofits have an exclusive shot at buying them up...."
high info voter remarked,
COMMUNISM!
That certainly explains why it's
The hottest spot north of Havana.
Some of the richest people I have known worked for non-profits.
The suckers who work for big corporation that make products the public wants, and try to expand market share and boost their profits, and sell stock, and increase shareholder value, and really make a killing in the marketplace -- a lot of that turn into chump change for people who contribute to the enterprise.
But the enterprises that don't care about profit? They don't really care what the public wants? No stock? No market share? Those non-profit enterprises rake in the Big Bucks and some of the people involved become very rich indeed.
GROUND RENT AGREEMENT
Mr. White agrees to rent 10 acres off Mr. Farmer and lease back 9 acres for agricultural purposes for a net payment equal to the property tax on the 10 acres and the improvements thereupon....
This agreement may be cancelled by either party with 99 years notice.
A dwelling in a rural area is going to be cheaper that what union labor can build an apartment in New York City for.
Replacing the plumbing on a house is probably going to be ten times the cost of putting plumbing into a new house.
Use Google Streetview to take a look at Detroit.
It’s pretty shocking.
That's how communism works, isn't it? Your "Leaders" get first dibs on everything... (spit)
How is this legal?
