Azusa residents, city officials accuse L.A. Metro of dumping passengers in city, leading to uptick in crime

Residents and city officials in Azusa are frustrated over a reported uptick in crime due to passengers being forced off Metro trains at their city’s station at the end of the night.

The Metro A Line continues beyond Azusa to the end of the line in Pomona, leaving residents questioning why passengers are being moved off beforehand and why trains are stopping there overnight.

“We have seen an influx of homeless people being kicked off the train at a certain time and then they’re just roaming into the community, which is terrorizing our neighbors,”

Lujan said residents have dealt with people showing up at their front doors, stealing packages and breaking in.

Surveillance video showed several instances of people climbing over a metal gate and into a community of residences. One man was seen urinating outside a front door.

...[D]eputies telling passengers to get off at the Azusa station, however those who stick around are seen setting up blankets and sleeping on the benches or on the ground.

A Metro spokesperson told KTLA that the final two trains stop in Azusa to allow crews enough time to clean and perform essential overnight maintenance before train service resumes in the morning.

The agency said that extending those trains further to Pomona would leave workers with only about 45 minutes to complete their work.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that deputies usually clear passengers from trains at the Azusa stop when they end service, so the trains can be cleaned and sanitized.

However, Azusa Mayor Edward Alvarez believes stopping the line in Azusa is unfair and a strain on law enforcement and local resources. He’s seen an uptick in reports of public urination and defecation, but said the city doesn’t have the resources to handle these growing concerns.

Are they exporting the inner city homeless who happen to be aimlessly riding the trains to an outlying city? Is that what’s really going on?

MTA (Maryland Transit Authority) sort of does the same thing with “reverse commuting”: Ghetto bottom feeders take the MTA outbound in the morning; plunder the commuters’ houses; then pass them inbound as they return to their ransacked homes.

I love the old Northern Central (PRR) line from Baltimore to Harrisburg but I am thankful that there are no longer any rails from Hunt Valley to New Freedom.
