The United States on Thursday told its European allies, particularly Germany and France, to "immediately" release their strategic reserves of diesel to help lower the soaring price of the refined fuel.
It comes a day after President Donald Trump floated the possibility of banning US diesel exports to stem the rise in prices.
At an emergency meeting of the European Union's energy task force on Friday, an EU spokesperson said the bloc "fully rejects" the ban threat, saying it would "undermine ... trust in the US."
Average US diesel prices have surged over 70% to $6.39 per US gallon (€1.50 per liter) since the start of the Iran war, according to AAA motor club data.

That would only put upward pressure on what they are paying now.
That would help them lower prices over there if they kept that diesel in the EU,,,,,but if they release it to the world market or to the US, how does that help them over there? Maybe I am wrong, but I just don’t see them doing that to help the US.
