A heavily pregnant woman has been left homeless after a council that houses more than 3,500 migrants refused her emergency accommodation, a charity says.
Homeless Project Scotland posted on Facebook claiming the 34-week-pregnant woman, who said she had fled an abusive relationship in London, was snubbed by Glasgow City Council.
The charity's chief executive Colin McInnes described her plight as one of the most 'horrific' he had seen.
The shelter said it was 'extremely concerning' that the woman had no where else to go as Mr McInnes urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham to 'take back control' of homeless services from the SNP-led Scottish government.
He said: 'If Andy Burnham had control of homelessness in Scotland now, that woman would not be left on the streets.'
Latest figures from the council suggest there are 7,711 homeless adults and 2,931 children in Glasgow – both described as 'disproportionately high' compared to the rest of Scotland.
The most recent Home Office figures suggest 3,683 migrants are receiving housing support in Glasgow, with another 152 getting financial backing – amounting to about half of the 6,500 migrants across Scotland.
The 26-year-old mother-to-be arrived at Homeless Project Scotland's main base in central Glasgow on Tuesday at about 9.30pm, having travelled from London – allegedly fleeing an abusive relationship.

A late term woman fleeing an abusive relationship gets turned away from shelter to prioritize housing illegal immigrants? This is the reductio ad absurdum of liberal immigration policy.

I guess the Glasgow City Council realized that this homeless woman will not be voting anytime soon. So she gets the boot.
But the “peaceful” Muslim invaders will eventually be voting. So, priorities.
