A key GOP super PAC reportedly has removed $6.5 million in ad reservations from North Carolina's Senate race for the month of October with Republican candidate Michael Whatley trailing former Democrat Gov. Roy Cooper in polls.
The GOP-aligned Old North Action pulled the reservations as Republicans assess their spending in the closely watched contest for the seat being vacated by retiring Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, Semafor reported Monday, citing media tracker AdImpact.
The group still has $14.5 million in advertising reserved through Election Day.
The Senate Leadership Fund, the leading Republican Senate super PAC, also adjusted its North Carolina spending, dropping about $900,000 in broadcast reservations while adding $400,000 in digital advertising.
SLF said the changes were part of a routine effort to maximize viewership and that it remains heavily invested in the state.
The group has approximately $23.2 million reserved in North Carolina and plans additional advertising, according to Semafor.
The moves came as Vice President JD Vance campaigned Monday in Greensboro for Whatley, the former Republican National Committee chair.
President Donald Trump, who endorsed Whatley, also traveled to North Carolina last week to rally supporters in Gastonia.
Whatley is attempting to close a polling deficit against Cooper, a former two-term governor with decades of experience running statewide.
A Carolina Journal poll released Sept. 17 found Cooper receiving 49.2% support among likely voters compared with 34.1% for Whatley.

Just as well. Candidate quality is not the only problem. There was no candidate. Tillis was not worth keeping the seat. Hard to say that but NC is not Texas.
Yep... sad to see and live in NC now. Far too many “Yuckin’ Fankees” have moved into the state causing a shift in the political compass needle over the past few years. That, and the Demo-crooks can always rely on the “Gibs-me-dat!” population who seriously have never figured out that they are STILL being kept on the plantation! (Yeah, I know...I’ll probably burn in H-E-Double Toothpicks for even thinking that).
