NATO endorsed an agreement between the US and Denmark to expand Washington's military presence in Greenland, potentially forestalling President Donald Trump's demands to take over the Arctic territory.
The agreement provides a potential US veto power over Russian and Chinese investments on Greenland, makes permanent Washington's military presence, and allows for more US bases.
The deal notably falls short of American ownership — an earlier demand by Trump that had strained NATO to its breaking point.
The deal should "begin the process of healing," Atlantic Council experts said, though the specter of US aggression against treaty allies kicked off a European "hedging and diversification strategy" that will likely continue.
"The transatlantic bond is growing colder and far more transactional," The Economist wrote.

We are seeing Trump’s style in action.
His seemingly outrageous public proclamations are the start, followed by his demands - some real and some fake - at which the targeted “elites” and their media just shake their heads and declare impossible.
Having laid the groundwork, his team then (mostly) quietly hammers out the details.
A survey of American adults last January? Not even likely voters?
I’ll bet more than 50% couldn’t find Greenland on a map.
Trump got the win on this - keeping all of us safe. Democrats and their boys in the press miss the point - no one starts a deal thinking they’ll get everything they want.

Old survey but the fact is that a large percentage of America see America as the nation the world needs to overcome to become a better place, that what is good for us, is bad, and is stolen from the rest of humanity.
Internally, many Americans see the core Americans, the whites and their first 250 years, as something dark and negative that has to be overcome for America to change and become a great nation.

It looks like Trump just invested in NATO with enthusiasm! NATO is back!
This deal (even though it doesn’t change much from what was already in place for decades) just makes things a bit clearer.
What does today’s deal actually appear to change?
There are three additions:
More U.S. military presence:
The agreement reportedly allows Washington to expand its military footprint beyond the existing arrangement. The U.S. had already been negotiating access to additional defense areas earlier this year.
A more explicit long-term security guarantee/control arrangement.
Trump describes the agreement as giving the U.S. effectively permanent control over Greenland’s security needs. The reported agreement would also allow the U.S. to maintain a military presence even if Greenland eventually became independent.
Explicit exclusion of strategic competitors.
Reporting says the agreement would prevent non-NATO states—particularly China and Russia—from establishing military bases or making certain security-sensitive investments in Greenland.
This is what Europe always wanted from America! Trump is now officially committed to NATO and the protection of Denmark / EU
But here’s the really interesting part:
Those changes are considerably less dramatic than Trump’s rhetoric makes them sound.
Denmark and Greenland were already NATO territory. China or Russia establishing a military base there was already an extraordinarily unlikely prospect. And Washington already possessed extensive rights to expand and operate military facilities under the existing framework.
The situation has simply been re-clarified with a fresh new signature, by Trump.
Glad to see America now more openly opposing China and Russia. It’s clearer.
A great day for NATO. Just like America, Europe will celebrate this new deal.
Yep, America of its first 200 years is the best formed country of humans that the world has ever seen.
First yah troll to identify the arseholes working for the CCP. Then, talk about and impose tariffs on involved parties to show that there are long term consequences. Then, you propose a real deal.
Read a book on negotiation. This is how you can do it. Not the only way, but it works.
I bet that, in a blind taste-testing, more than 50% couldn't distinguish whale blubber from seal blubber.
