Paramount has reached a settlement with California Attorney General Rob Bonta over a multi-state antitrust lawsuit, paving the way for its massive $81 billion Warner Bros. Discovery merger, according to sources.
By approximately 10:20 a.m. ET, shares in Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery jumped 6.6% and 9.8%, respectively, after reports that advanced settlement talks over the weekend had been successful.
The settlement terms include a commitment to release 30 movies a year; a multiyear pledge to remain in California, after previously threatening to exit; and independent editorial boards for CBS News and CNN, sources told The Post.
The Wall Street Journal had reported on several possible concessions, including a $1.5 billion investment in California production and a possible penalty if Paramount doesn’t deliver on its 30-film promise, including the sale of Miramax, home to classics like “Pulp Fiction.”
Sources told The Post the deciding factor in the settlement was New York Attorney General Letitia James coming to the table. James – who is up for re-election in New York – represents thousands of New Yorkers who work for Paramount and Warner Bros.
Massachusetts, Connecticut and Minnesota had also opposed the deal, but the holdouts ultimately decided the cost of the legal battle wasn’t justifiable if California wasn’t also on board, according to Bloomberg.
Paramount and Bonta did not immediately respond to The Post’s requests for comment.
President Trump’s Department of Justice in June greenlit the deal, which would combine HBO Max, Paramount+, HBO, CBS, CNN and thousands of movie titles under one company led by David Ellison, the son of Oracle billionaire and Trump ally Larry Ellison.

This is where the plot thickens.
Too bad - although I hate to see people lose their jobs, I was hoping they’d move out of state to deprive California of the tax money.
“A full relocation of Paramount Skydance out of California could result in the permanent loss of 28,990 to 57,980 full-time jobs statewide and reduce annual economic output by $10.6 billion to $21.2 billion.”
Too many business - and their tax dollars - have already fled California, and Bobble-Head Bonta well knows this.
Related: Trump’s FCC cleared the way for %49.5 of the merged company to be owned by Saudi Arabia Qatar and the UAE.
That doesn’t sound good
Nothing like threatening to remove a multi-billion dollar business from a State to get cooperation. It also shows the DA to be a simp and a cuck.
They’ll still leave. Just quietly and over time.
“Trump’s FCC cleared the way for %49.5 of the merged company to be owned by Saudi Arabia Qatar and the UAE.”
It seems odd for Muslims to own images of living beings and music.
I guess owning images of dead presidents and of a once living queen has softened them up.
Fighting restraints on trade by putting restraints on trade seems odd to me.
I haven’t watched a CBS News or CNN broadcast for years.
I sometimes visit the CNN website.
So basically, Ellison caved.
Doesn’t this entire thing smell like a case of government using legalized extortion.
Paramount is under the gun financially, their deal to buy Warner Brothers from what I’ve seen Paramount has financial incentives to close by a certain date or Paramount will owe a lot more money to close the deal.
The State AG’s suing Paramount are primarily from Blue States, they are afraid that Paramount who is owned by a Trump supporter will trash CNN and other liberal outlets or turn them into Trump oriented networks.
IMO, these AG’s are strong arming Paramount in what amounts to legalized extortion.
A lot can and will happen once the deal closes. Paramount agreed to an independent board for CNN among other things. If this becomes final that board and the other concessions will probably change a lot. The good news is that is likely the leftist scumbags who run Netflix will not get their hands on WB.
I was hoping they’d move out of state to deprive California of the tax money.

California is losing about 2% of its tax base annually.
In time if that trend continues, the state will go bankrupt—and its debt will fall on US tax payers.
If folks want excellent analysis of this deal, I recommend WDW Pro on YouTube.
The Nashville gambit has apparently worked!
They are still going to move out of CA. This just delays it a bit. No way they are not going to get out of there.
Yeah WDW Pro is one of the good ones.
Well, Mark Ruffalo will not be happy. 😂😂😂😂
If it’s any consolation, my shares in WBD are up over $3 this morning, and within $.15 of the buyout price. Made a little over 300%
I absolutely acknowledge downsides. But WBD was either going to go under or get acquired, and Paramount was infinitely better than having Netflix take over
Bonta bent over and dropped his drawers. He caved or else Ellison and Paramount walks.
It's that simple, you freaking retard!
