Republican Lawmaker Breaks With Trump on Immigration

Florida Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar says Hispanic voters feel betrayed by the president’s policies

Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar, who represents a red-leaning South Florida district, rolled out a straight-to-camera ad on Thursday breaking with President Trump on his immigration enforcement tactics, a stark warning for her party as it heads to the midterms.

The 30-second ad, airing in English and Spanish, is one of the most direct examples of a Republican candidate breaking with the president. It comes as support has frayed for the GOP among Hispanic voters with less than two months until the November election.

“Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far,” Salazar says in the ad. “The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.”

The ad will air throughout South Florida on broadcast television, digital and streaming platforms, her campaign said. The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump has encouraged his supporters to act as though his name is on the ballot in the midterms and has said he would campaign for Republican candidates. Salazar’s ad, however, shows that not all Republicans are on board with the strategy. Earlier this week, two Iowa GOP lawmakers voted with Democrats on a measure to rein in Trump’s military powers in Iran, saying the war was dragging on too long and was driving up energy prices.

The president’s approval ratings have sunk in his second term, and the decline is even more pronounced among Hispanic voters, where Trump and Republicans...

The only person who can set our country back on its rightful course is President Trump.

"The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today.”

I guess she wants foreign illegal aliens to vote. She needs to go where the Hispanic voters are.

She highlights ICE data showing that in July, 50% of ICE detainees had no criminal convictions or pending charges.

What percentage of them are present legally? Because that's the only percentage that matters.

"...“The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today”..."

Really?

From NPR (and this was BEFORE the. 2024 election): "...While campaigning, President-elect Donald Trump promised "On day one, I will launch the largest deportation program of criminals in the history of America." He referenced 1954's "Operation Wetback," an effort ordered by President Dwight D. Eisenhower..."

And this from AP dated 9/28/2024 (over a month before the election):

"...Trump vows mass deportations

Immigration was the issue that propelled Trump into the White House the first time and what he hopes will give him another term. During just about every campaign speech or appearance, he has portrayed immigration as out of control.

One of Trump’s key promises if reelected is to mount the largest domestic deportation in U.S. history. He made similar promises when he first ran for office, but during his administration, deportations never topped 350,000.

For comparison, then-President Barack Obama carried out 432,000 deportations in 2013, the highest annual total since records were kept.

This time, Trump has given some more specifics on his promises. He said he’ll use the National Guard to round up migrants. And he said he would invoke the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 law that allows the president to deport any noncitizen from a country that the U.S. is at war with. He’s also vowed to kick out hundreds of thousands of immigrants who have entered the country under two key Biden administration programs if he’s reelected.

Any mass deportation plans would certainly be challenged in court and be enormously expensive to carry out. And it would depend on countries being willing to take back their citizens.

Trump says he also would bring back policies he put in place during his first term, like the Remain in Mexico program and Title 42. Remain in Mexico made migrants wait in Mexico while their asylum cases were heard, while Title 42 curbed immigration on public health grounds. He has said he’ll revive and expand a travel ban from his term that originally targeted citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries and pledged new “ideological screening” for immigrants to bar “dangerous lunatics, haters, bigots and maniacs.”

Trump also seeks to end birthright citizenship for people born in the U.S. whose parents are both in the country illegally...."

In Summary: During the 2024 election cycle, Trump said loudly exactly what he was going to do. All year, he said repeatedly exactly what he was going to do. He said publicly in nearly any interview exactly what he was going to do. And when he was elected, he did exactly those things he said he was going to do.

And hispanics voted for him in record numbers.

So. With this in mind, what can we take about the assertion from the putrid, Deep State Wall Street Journal (that hates Trump and everything about him) and make heads or tails out of it?

That hispanics, who voted for him in historic percentages (46% overall) were unaware that Trump was going to do these things? If THIS is true, then they weren't paying attention and that does not speak well for hispanic voters.

Or, that they knew Trump was going to do these things, and didn't believe he would follow through? That it was campaign rhetoric? If THIS is true, they understood neither the issue NOR the candidate, and that is not a good look, either.

If you ask me, the truth of the matter is, this is the "Open Borders" underwear of the stinking, globalist Wall Street Journal showing, and they want to make people believe Trump's agenda is evil and should be thwarted by writing a stupid article like this.

And that doesn't even begin to mention what this means about the stinking POS Open Borders RINO Salazar.

Hispanic voters can and are absolutely Americans AND voters.

As long as they are citizens, they are both Voters AND Americans, and I am glad to embrace that 50% who voted for Trump as enthusiastically as any conservative (or at least Non-Leftist) I know. I can respect that they can and do have values similar to mine.

Illegal hispanics are neither Voters nor Americans. They should all be detained and deported whenever and wherever they are, regardless of the circumstances.

She's already there; surrounded by American and Hispanic voters, and also surrounded by Hispanic-American/American-Hispanic voters.
