NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday announced plans to install 17 additional modular public bathrooms across New York City as part of a one-year pilot program with Throne Labs.
The new bathrooms will be placed in high-traffic areas across the city, with installation beginning this week. Officials showcased two of the modular units as part of the announcement.
New Yorkers will be able to access the bathrooms by text message, QR code, through the Throne Bathroom Network app or with a tap card distributed by local community partners. The tap cards are intended to ensure people experiencing homelessness also have access to the facilities.
Planned locations include areas near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, Columbus Park in Brooklyn and Cooper Square in the East Village.
Each bathroom will be free to use and open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. They will be ADA-accessible and fully touchless.
Users will be limited to 10 minutes inside. Audio warnings will sound at the five-minute and eight-minute marks before the doors open when the time limit expires.

Parody is less absurd than this.
And later they start charging for the convenience, like Europe....................
Let the memes begin.
sounds like 3.5 million per toilet if you ask me....maybe even more...
Love the idea of the doors flinging open with one’s pants around their ankles. What about if one has to drop a load of dueces and can’t get off the pot?
Clown show
It’s like tiny houses for the homeless
They like sleeping on the street
BYOV Bring your own Vaseline.
This is so gay.
Muggers start hanging around the door when the 8 minute warning goes off, payday is a short wait after that.
Well, we know where to find Graham Platner.
10 minutes is plenty of time to shoot drugs or have a quick interlude with a prostitute.
I feel bad for whoever had to provide janitorial services to clean up those literal crap holes.
“I love the “Bee” stories. What? it’s not the “Bee”? Fooled me.
So all you’ve got is a strict 10 minutes. It’s foolproof!
Unless of course someone brings a curtain and a bit of tape with him.
>>They will be ADA-accessible and fully touchless.
But will they have squat trenches, muzzie foot-washing stations, and a basket of stones for wiping? It is muzzie-controlled NYC after all...
The difference is in at least in Italy most of the toilets you pay 1 Euro for get cleaned immediately after you use them.
Those toilets in Italy are a business for some guy. I remember using one at the ferry dock in Sorrento. I paid him they 1 Euro coin. As soon as I was done he went in and cleaned it for the next person. It also had a seat.
These NYC toilets will be trashed and full of needles within a few weeks. Plus, they cost per toilet will be about ten times what it should be. Government money. Union workers only. Somebody who is buddies with the government will get the contract. They will make millions off of it.
I need at least 20.
The question is will he be alone?
I’m old enough to remember when it cost a dime to access a public toilet stall.
But that was a way different and civilized time and there was certainly no time limit.
How much is this going to cost? Per seat.
“....or have a quick interlude with a prostitute.”
For some people....................😁
