New Mexico is Building Yet Another Tax-payer-Funded Abortion Center

As construction advances on New Mexico’s first $10 million forced taxpayer-funded abortion killing center in Las Cruces, NM, the New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL) confirms that pro-abortion administrators at the University of New Mexico (UNM), in partnership with state officials, are targeting Las Vegas, NM as the site for the second state-funded abortion killing center.

The information comes directly from Christopher Arndt, M.D., Interim President and CEO of the UNM Health Sciences Center, during a 2026 University of New Mexico Board of Regents meeting earlier this year.

Discussing the state’s plans for a second facility, Arndt said:

“And we are looking for the best locations to potentially build a like-minded clinic with another $10 million appropriation from a year ago in northern New Mexico. After discussions with the state of New Mexico, it was found that Las Vegas, New Mexico would be the ideal location for that.”

In an effort to find evidence on where the state was planning to build the second state-funded abortion killing center, NMAFL previously submitted several Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) requests. Many of these requests were denied or came up empty, indicating a concerted effort to conceal their plans for as long as possible.

In the 2025 legislative session, NMAFL broke the story on radical pro-abortion Democrats’ last-minute move to insert language to fund a “reproductive health center in Northern New Mexico” into HB 450, the capital outlay funding bill. Legislators were given less than 24 hours’ notice of the highly controversial line-item addition that was ultimately rammed through the legislature despite public outcry. The House passed the bill 41-25, followed by Senate passage on a 25–16 vote. The 2026 legislation specifically amended the project to allow acquisition of property.

Now, NMAFL has identified the location being considered for the second facility.

“It is no surprise the pro-abortion activists are targeting Las Vegas, New Mexico. With two college campuses and a central role in northern New Mexico, this community puts them within reach of young women facing unexpected pregnancies,” said Elisa Martinez, Executive Director of NMAFL. “Just as they tried to sneak the funding for their abortion project through the legislature, pro-abortion activists are now hiding details of their plans to expand their abortion empire to Las Vegas — proof of how deeply unpopular and controversial this plan remains.”

New Mexico Alliance for Life spearheaded the public fight against this funding in the legislature, mobilizing opposition, supporting efforts to strip the abortion killing center money from the bill, and continuing to demand transparency as the highly controversial project moves forward.

The majority of New Mexicans believe that there should be restrictions around abortion, and NMAFL is calling on UNM and state officials to respect the will of their constituents.

As New Mexicans prepare for the Statewide Day of Prayer on September 12, 2026, NMAFL is urging concerned citizens to join in prayer for an end to the University of New Mexico’s taxpayer-funded abortion expansion agenda targeting both Las Cruces, NM and now Las Vegas, NM. NMAFL encourages New Mexicans to stand together in prayer and action and demand that state officials truly represent the majority of New Mexicans—who support more abortion restrictions, not less.

This was the reason the feds bailed getting out from under Roe. This is a state funded facility that has nothing to do with federal tax money. It is their privilege to detemine how they spend their money concerning health care or funded medical procedures legal or not, moral or not. I will not bear the blame for their stupiity and it is their monkey on their back. But I would never live in the state with these types of policies. And until someone in the state pushes back, idiocy like this will continue. It’s the liberal way.
