Trump announces hundreds of thousands of Americans will get $500 ObamaCare rebate checks

President Trump will send $500 rebate checks to thousands of Americans who bought health insurance on Affordable Care Act exchanges, claiming they were overcharged.

“Our administration is doing the right thing and giving the money back to the people who were wrongly ripped off. Nearly 1 million hardworking Americans in 30 states will soon be getting refunds of $500 each, with a check sent to their home address,” the president said in a video announcement posted on White House social media accounts Thursday morning promoting his ‘Great Healthcare Plan.”

Trump said the payments would be dispatched “in just a few weeks,” meaning thousands may receive them ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm election that will decide control of Congress.

Trump, 80, is pushing a variety of incentives to keep his party in power, including $5,000 tariff dividend checks if Republicans keep their congressional majority.

The Obamacare rebates are another financial tool the president is wielding as he touts his administration’s efforts to help lower the cost of living.

The rebate funds would come from $500 million sitting in federal accounts that was collected during Joe Biden’s presidency. The White House says the Democratic administration collected excessive “user fees” for Obamacare — costs that were passed on to consumers in the form of higher premiums.

“Our administration has discovered that under Sleepy Joe Biden, American households buying health insurance through the Obamacare exchange, which is a disaster, and the healthcare.gov were massively overcharged,” Trump said.

The $500 checks would be limited to those who bought marketplace coverage without federal premium subsidies in 30 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Yes, returning money the government overcharged citizens is the worst kind of ‘pandering’. /s

Well, okay. But doesn’t Congress have a say here? It’s my understanding that all federal spending must be approved by Congress.

Perhaps Trump knows this perfectly well. And he’ll blame some judge when the whole idea gets slapped down.

He’s throwing around money like a drunken sailor.

Does he really think anybody is going to vote republican because of this?

He sure seems desperate lately.

I think this is just a Trump rebranding of rebates that people have been getting all along. It's already written into the ACA. Kind of a brilliant move by Trump, actually.

It is a bad look given the timing. It seems like a shameless pander. It looks more and more like we are losing the House despite the rats standing firmly on the 20 side of the 80/20 issues. The clueless middle and the women are going to screw us I fear.

True, it looks like a desperation move. I think he knows the dems will win the House, so it will never happen anyway.

I don’t see how Trump could do this - even though I like the idea. Obamacare is an abomination that but for a turn-coat, last minute change of mind by Justice Roberts would have never been implemented - he justified it as a convoluted “tax.”

And yes, the $5k promise sure looks like desperation, unfortunately.

Why not? Isn’t this precisely what democrats do when they run on increasing minimum wage, extending health care subsidies, proposing legislation that hoists costs for freebies onto private companies, making “immigrants” qualified for government services, and almost every other governing plan? This IS the only way democrats run for office. Why begrudge DJT?

Because reference this and in particular, the $5,000 for everyone,,,,,,,the democrats will add that to the list you cited. They will absolutely love this if they get back in power in 2028. I am really surprised that they did not think of it first.

They can increase that amount for them to get elected, and then use it as a huge first step towards their ultimate socialistic goal of a Universal Basic Income for everyone. Democrats will use it on steroids.

Obamacare was a fraud in SOOO many levels

Its expansion of Medicaid into so many new areas, supervised by states, was the start of Large scale fraud.

Yes, fraud always existed, but IMHO, Obamacare made it purposefully- to fund the social engineering of America, and a funding mechanism / grift for thousands of woke democrat machine NGOs and people
