When Britain confirmed last September that it would recognize a Palestinian state, it was pulled in the wake of France, which had signaled a few months earlier that it planned to take the symbolically freighted step.
On Tuesday, almost a year later, Britain was the one to seize the initiative. The British government announced, followed by France and Canada, that it would stop trading with Jewish settlements in the West Bank. It went so far as to accuse some settlers of engaging in the “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians.
This diplomatic sequencing speaks partly to domestic politics in each country. Last year, President Emmanuel Macron of France, entering the twilight of his term, was eager to cement his legacy. Now, a new British prime minister, Andy Burnham, wants to mollify Labour Party members appalled by the suffering in Gaza and angry that Britain hasn’t done more about it.
Yet the cumulative impact is strikingly united European pressure on Israel. It has left the Israeli government bitterly estranged from Europe, at odds with its two largest military powers — once stalwart allies — and facing economic punishment that analysts said could prove to be more than symbolic.
“The idea of boycotting goods from settlements or even treating them differently in terms of customs and duties has always been talked about, but almost nothing has been done to date,” Daniel C. Kurtzer, a former United States ambassador to Israel, said. “Even the idea of clearly labeling goods from settlements, so as to distinguish them from ‘Made in Israel’ has not taken off.”
“Bottom line,” said Mr. Kurtzer, who now teaches at Princeton, “this could be a very significant economic blow to the settlements movement and any Israeli government that backs settlements.”

Anti-Semitism is the European national pasttime.
This is what happens when you let millions of North African Muslims walk in and take over.
The world has gone Insane and many many will die
F the EU and especially the British. Pull the troops out, double all tarrifs and send the diplomats home for a month or two.
Yes, it must be anti-Semitic to believe that the Arabs in Palestine should have the same rights as the Jews. Try again!
Arabs, who aren’t terrorists, do just fine in Israel.
Since England and France are so fond of the two state solution and also are concerned about the west bank, I propose a new West Bank be created in Hastings as one state, and the second state in Normandy.
So just like these two areas were significant in 1066 for the Norman Invasion, they can save themselves the trouble and surrender to the Palestinian Invasion.
Where is this “Palestine” of which you speak? There’s one in Texas, but other than that...
What’s a Palestine?
I bet you see “antisemitism” everywhere. Is it in your closet?
And why do you think that the Arabs within Israel and those in the territories act so differently? Here’s a hint: they are treated differently by the Israelis.
So absurd as to raise the question if the EUronazis are on drugs.
There will never be a Fakestinian state on Israeli land or anywhere wherefrom the terrorist murder gangsters can assemble and strike from.
My theory/. The leftover EUronazis are seeking a way to distract their citizens from the EUronazis’ treason in SELLING OUT THEIR OWN COUNTRIES AND PEOPLE to the Islamonazi invasion.

The Anglo-Palestine Bank was a subsidiary of the Jewish Colonial Trust.
And Istanbul used to be Constantinople.
The European Left pandering to its Islamic conquerors.
Rabies in dogs = islam in men.
There are still Arabs living in the territories and they are not going anywhere. If Israel were to attempt to drive them out that would be the very definition of ethnic cleansing. Israel has held the territories for nearly sixty years. It’s time to come to a settlement.
It's not a difficult question to answer, and it has everything to do with civility vs terrorism.
The so-called palestinians have gotten themselves in this situation with their actions and are getting exactly what they deserved. I would have exterminated every last one, and I'm not even a Jew!
You're a moron along with the other anti-semitic jerkoffs that repeatedly infest this forum with their bile.
Eff you.
Jews should respect muslims the same way muslims respected Jews on October 7th 2023.
In identical fashion.
But they won’t.
