Rome authorities have tightened security around the Colosseum and other popular tourist attractions in the Italian capital due to a rise in crime. In late August, the area around the ancient amphitheater was officially declared a "red zone" - an increase in the presence of law enforcement officers and their powers were expanded.
The special regime will be in effect until at least December 24, 2026, write CNN.
The reason for the increased security was, in particular, a series of incidents in the Colosseum area. In July, about 50 young people attacked police officers using fireworks, as a result of which several law enforcement officers were injured. The authorities attribute the worsening situation to the increase in street crime, drug trafficking and the general decline of the urban environment.
Increased security measures have also been implemented near the main Termini train station, St. Peter's Basilica and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the latter of which saw a significant increase in visitor numbers following the burial of Pope Francis in April 2025.

According to Giannini, the transport hub has also become a route for marginalized youth who head to the historic center and commit crimes against tourists and locals.
Who "marginalized" these youth?
I was in Genoa Italy this summer and the number of Afrikans was very notable. Every evening they had their drumming down near the harbor and the noise was obnoxious. Couldn’t even enjoy a nice meal because of it. Italy better figure this out or they won’t have a country.
We recently canceled travel plans to Italy because my wife says she doesn’t feel safe going to Europe. This story just confirms our decision.
Import Third World
Become Third World
I’ve read that the same problem (crime) is also a big problem near the Eiffel Tower. Since there are so many tourists there, it’s a pickpocket’s paradise.
Sometimes a Pierre gets arrested. But way more often it’s a Mohammed or an Esmeralda.
Some details here:
“The authorities attribute the worsening situation to the increase in street crime, drug trafficking and the general decline of the urban environment.”
They’d save a bunch of ink by just saying “immigration”.
When the Muslims take over, they will restore the Colosseum and put it back into service for the festive executions of Jews and Christians.
Where are Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris when you need them?
Coolest thing we visited in Rome was the Vatican.

European anti-immigration parties talk about closing the border. But I’m not hearing much serious talk about mass deportations of the millions of illegals already there.
Too much of an (unfair) comparison with the old Nazi policies, I guess.
No matter. Do it, or you have lost your country.
As you noted.

Interestingly enough, the Vatican is also the country with the strictest anti-immigration laws in all of Europe. They don’t mess around.
Evidently, the Swiss Guard never got the pope’s message about welcoming immigrants with open arms.
Sad but true.
It’s only a matter of time before the whole planet becomes one big caliphate, I’m sad to say.
According to the NY Posy Article: “’the crimes have been carried out “predominantly by groups of young individuals of non-EU origin,’ ANSA reported.”
It sounds like they’re attributing the worsening situation to the worsening situation.
Glad l saw it before the barbarians 2.0 invaded.
“Listen, Betty, don’t start up with your red zone s___ again.”
