I thought it was an interesting story and the interview was nicely done. Palmer Luckey seems like a very bright man.

Hollyweird... Rad Bradbury types were the first to focus on AI, its issues, abilities, potential for good or evil.

INFORMATION WARFARE.
Exactly. It doesn’t take a genius to see how you might apply AI to warfare. Even in WWII, they were talking about “push button” warfare. Not quite AI, but highly automated with no man-in-the-loop (except to push the button).
How come Ukraine is kicking Putin’s butt ?

I have held the same viewpoint that good science fiction predicts the future, it is often written by people that have a serious science background and do extensive research on a topic.
MOST of what we call science fiction today, is simply action, drama, or horror movies that happen to take place in space.

Russia is still advancing - slow creep and is sitting on ~20% of what once was Ukraine. Ukraine failed to retain its territorial integrity, the military objective.

Ukraine is not in NATO, what caused this war in the first place. Ukraine failed to achieve their political goal, NATO membership.
What we're left doing is talking about imaginary casualties and “game changing” weapons. Our only way to create this notion of success is to go into the realm of make-belief, where you can simply make any claim and then set the goal post somewhere we can at least pretend like we scored. BUT, what we claim does not make sense (not even the casualties):
1.) Early leaked and likely somewhat accurate (these were for internal US and NATO ally use) reports from Newsweek showed casualties FAR lower for Russia than what out news media claimed. Since then, Russia has adopted a more risk averse approach, changed their tactics and employed new systems to counter some of ours. Meanwhile, Ukraine had an extremely casualty intense counter offensive late 2023.
2.) Graves and funeral announcements: When folks die, they get buried and there are often announcements etc. Governments can control the media and Internet to a large degree, they can refuse to give accurate reports (which they do have), but these funerals and cemeteries are hard to delete. It is Ukraine that is stuffing more bodies in graves than Russia.

3.) What produces the casualties? Artillery shells (huge Russian advantage ~ 300 - 400%), missiles and glide bombs (significant Russian advantage) and drones deployed (wash - about the same): It is Russia that is firing more artillery shells, more missiles and glide bombs, and about the same number of drones. 4.) Casualty transfers: Ukraine is receiving from Russia more bodies than Russia is receiving from Ukraine. How can that be, if Ukraine is killing so many more Russians?
The idea that Ukraine has some vast casualty ratio advantage, simply fails the “common sense” test. It was close to 2:1 to Ukraine's advantage in the early stages, but since then Russia has adopted a more casualty averse posture (they have taken most of what they want), employed new tactics and fielded systems to counter some of the tech which was giving them hell. Meanwhile, Ukraine launched a very casualty intense counter offensive. I would guess/suspect that the casualty ration has narrowed substantially since the early stages of war when Newsweek published the leaked documents which showed about a 2:1 ratio.

From that point on, any chance of Ukraine reclaiming its lost territory was gone. It became a pure war of attrition and Russia has all the numbers: population and military aged males, economic volume, industry, manufacturing, war industrial base, R&D.
Russia needs to maintain constant pressure to prevent Ukraine from amassing a large reserve with which they can again attempt a viable counter offensive as in 2023. The constant push and seizing of more land also creates a “price-tag” for Ukraine in not settling this under mostly Russian terms. The longer it goes on, the bigger of a loser Ukraine becomes.
When this ends, Ukraine will lose a bunch of land and not be in NATO.
Russia has never had as their goal the complete seizing and holding of all Ukraine, that was our “propaganda.” Taking the nationalist West would be a permanent resource drain on Russia.
Attacking into NATO as was stated by numerous folks on our side, “unless we stop them in Ukraine,” was a near comical idea floated to get the dumb masses rallying around this war. That idea would have Russia attacking a military alliance with over-match in every domain of warfare: conventional, non-conventional, nuclear (NATO combined), population, tech, industry, war stock, R&D, information operations, Intel, strategic forces, logistics.
NATO's military advantage, not even counting the tech advantage, just the raw numbers in military man-power, put Russia on the losing side even in a well prepared defense - and we're floating ideas of them attacking! Because you only watch NBC News. The REAL QUESTION you should be asking is why did our CIA Chief go to Moscow (and not Russia coming here) if there wasn’t something very sensitive to discuss.
The Operational Excuse, that it was to warn the Russians about attacking one of the paranoid EU-owned countries in Europe doesn’t work, since that could be done through a simple phone call, which wouldn’t be a big deal even if intercepted and disclosed - since that is NATO POLICY, including using nukes.
