Nancy Pelosi Threw Hakeem Jeffries Under the Bus

House Democrats are having a rough week.

On Tuesday, 192 of them voted against condemning socialism, a gift-wrapped attack ad for Republicans just months before the midterms. But that wasn't even the most embarrassing part of their day.

The real story is what happened behind the scenes, where two centrist Democrats blew up their own party's carefully laid plans to stop the vote entirely and exposed just how little control House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) actually has over his caucus.

And if that weren't bad enough, none other than House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) showed up to twist the knife.

What happened was that the House passed a procedural "rule" Tuesday by a razor-thin 210-208 vote. Rules like this normally pass along party lines without drama. This one didn't, because two Democrats, Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.), broke ranks and helped Republicans push it through.

Golden isn't exactly known for playing nice with leadership. "I think it's well established that I don't really do whip calls," he said.

As previously reported, the rule condemned “socialism in all its forms,” a measure most House Democrats opposed because it also advanced the SAVE America Act. Golden said he’d “probably” support the anti-socialism language, but his real reason was the Northeast Lobsterman Protection Act, which he co-leads and calls a “top priority.”

I’d like it to be an actual bus.

If it normally passes along party lines, then why did the majority Republicans need two Dems to vote with them? Are the Republicans voting with the Republicans or did they skip the vote?

Excuse me, but Ms. Pelosi’s official title now is “Speaker Emerita”.
Pretty fancy, eh?

Impeachment hearings for 2 years straight coming. Pete Hegseth first? Independents and Republicans sit home and allow a repeat of Biden’s term?
Trump not handing out his 400 million to candidates but running ads to rehab his image instead?

One has to wonder how much the debate over capitalism and socialism resonates with the average low-information voter. Do they understand the difference? Do they really care?

Can a cabinet secretary be impeached? Yes, but it would vbe rare, and so far, no actual convictions. So far:

Impeached Cabinet Secretaries:

William Belknap (1876) – impeached; acquitted after full Senate trial.

Alejandro Mayorkas (2024) – impeached; Senate dismissed articles without trial.

These two cases, separated by nearly 150 years, represent the entire history of Cabinet‑level impeachments in the United States.

But far be it from me to tell democrats how they should spend their time. Impeachments seems to stop all other business, so if the dems win power and concentrate on a slew of impeachments, we won’t have any of their horrible laws getting passed.

You’re right. Pelosi was a tough cookie as speaker. She got the job done. For her party, that is.

It’s a real shame that recent GOP speakers are nothing like that.

G.Gordon Liddy used to say to callers, on his radio show: "if you mix a gallon of clean water with a gallon of dirty water, what do you have?"
