ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Water will soon return to the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, but it will only be a temporary fix for the river’s dry and cracked bed.
The Albuquerque Bernalillo Water Authority, in partnership with a number of other agencies and organizations, has released more than 650 million gallons from Abiquiu Reservoir for a temporary re-wetting of the Rio Grande’s Albuquerque stretch. The water is expected to reach town by Thursday.

The remains of Tropical Storm Edouard should hit east of Dallas tomorrow. Not expecting much rain from it in the Metroplex.
Same here. Let it rain. I have not seen it so dry or so persistently hot in memory.
there’s been a hot dome over texas for the last weeks. Its expected to move easterward sometime in the next couple days or next week.
I’ve read that the super el nino will bring vast amounts of rain to the southwest this winter.
we’ll see.
Hot and dry here but I’ve been worse. Got 2 cuttings of hay this year and haven’t had to put any out for the cows yet. Seen years when I was feeding in July.
It arrived here in East Tennessee yesterday and will be here for the next week

I just left Abique Monday of this week.
Ghost Ranch is right next to the lake created by the dam. It’s a beautiful place and where Georgia O’Keefe lived and painted for many years.
If you turn left just past the lake and drive 14 miles along the Chama River into the remote high desert country, you will find Christ in the Desert Monestary, a Benedictine Monestary. It’s one of my favorite places in the world to pray and meditate.
Drove through East Tennessee 2 weeks ago. I-40 sucks. 35 MPH single lane for many miles from Ashville through the mountains where the floods hit.
Drove back yesterday and bypassed your area. Turned south at Memphis to Tupelo, over to Birmingham and Atlanta, back up through Charlotte and back on I-40 at Greensboro. A beautiful, but long drive.
Love your area. Hope they get the construction done soon.
Yeah, like many others I’ve been smack dab right under the middle of it.
Some forecasts get brave but most right now for us just keep extending the 100 degree days.
Last time we were warned of “massive rains from a super El Nino” was 2015 - set LA into some type of panic, it was 24/7 news for months - sand bags were filled up and given away everywhere. Turned out to be one of the driest years on record.
Massive sand bags were installed along the LA River in case of overflow - right where I walk my dogs - can’t get past or over them, and they’re still there, deteriorating with the sand spilling out. That and they’re an eyesore.
I went to town Monday and going and coming back home I kept thinking how happy I am not to have any cows right now. Guys are hauling water.
We cut late in July and could cut again but I don’t want to, the barns are already full from the last two years. Our late cut was lousy but my tenant doesn’t care much about quality, just roughage. He has a chopper and claims the cows don’t care about hay quality so long as you feed a little cube and lick. Most people do that but they have a lot of cows that look like crap too.
One guy only seems to care that they live through the winter and left me 7 dead ones one year. I sent him packing after that. I spend too much taking care of cows compared to most but mine usually stay healthy. I just can’t abuse an animal even one that is going to slaughter. Some guys run a cow calf operation like a puppy mill with poor old mommas that struggle to have enough milk. They just use them up. How dare they call themselves herdsmen. There is a lot more to it. You can’t be a lazy herdsman, doing it right is as lot of steady labor and I’m getting too old to keep at it right.

Optima is in the Oklahoma Panhandle, built decades ago and never ever has had enough water to be more than like a cup full at the bottom of where the lake is supposed to be.
The other high desert reservoir on the Arkansas is John Martin, just south of US50 at Lamar, Colorado. The gate works rising above the plains looks more hopeful than realistic. Used to be a great place to stop for sunrise breakfast at Lamar.

I read they plan to build a “training” data center near there that will be huge.
That country has sure changed in the nearly 50 years since it was part of my circuit. When we were young living in Midland my wife would go with me on my weekend circuit to make all the rigs operating in our district. It was a marathon run of several hundred miles and she was a trooper.
Lots and lots of desert out there.
