US launches strikes in Iran in Strait of Hormuz area

US forces have reportedly begun launching military strikes in Iran this evening (Tuesday).

According to the initial reports, the attacks were conducted on Qeshm Island and in Chabahar, Iran; explosions were heard in both areas.

A senior US official said: “We struck sites in the Bandar Abbas area." All of the targets attacked are in the Strait of Hormuz area.

The US Central Command issued a statement saying, "Today at 12:00 PM Eastern Time, US forces began attacking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targets in Iran. The attacks come after recent attempted attacks by the Revolutionary Guard Corps against commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and against US service members deployed to the region."

This seems bigger than the last months strikes. The US started by destroying their radars (probably new Russian and Chinese), up and down the coast, and seem to be striking the whole western side of Iran, from Iraq to Pakistan. Then they started hitting airports. This might be to prepare for something larger, or it could be a dud, like we have seen in the last few months.

What catches my attention is that Iran has not been attacking Israel lately - at least not openly as far as I know.

Iran is always “death to Israel” but after the ass-kicking they received from Israel earlier in the year suddenly they will fire at any nearby country but Israel.

If President Trump would hold Israel's coat I think you would see the Iranians improve their behavior.

I actually meant to call it Aryan. They renamed it from Persia to Iran because that’s how they say Aryan. Basically, every time we see or hear the country name Iran, it’s a reminder that the Persians decided in the 1930s that they’re the supreme Aryan race and renamed their country as such.

This conflict is eating into our stockpile of very expensive weapons, and Iran has a stockpile of very cheap but effective weapons, especially drones.
Basically, our trillion dollar a year military is facing an enemy with the equivalent of Radio Shack drones, and so far has not been able to defeat them or secure the Strait.

It is very difficult to defeat someone on their home turf. We saw this in Vietnam.
It is how the United States won its independence 250 years ago.

Our ships are all throughout that street and we shoot down just about anything that makes it into the air, and have not allowed anything in or out of Iranian import so how does that equal? Iran controls the straight?

My post #7 in which I typed "Israel attacked numerous American ships in the Red Sea through their Houthi proxies beginning in 2023." was a mistype. It was IRAN, not ISRAEL that attacked American ships repeatedly. Therefore, post #5 (the post I was replying to) is incorrect in the assertion that we should just sit back and expect Israel to do all the fighting against Iran. If Iran brought us into the war by committing war crimes against us (attacking our ships going through the Suez Canal) then we ought to put a heap of FAFO onto Iran, regardless of how much Israel helps us against our common foe.
