Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that the state will be ending its partnership with Flock, resulting in approximately 700 cameras being removed across the state.

Florida will be revoking Flock's License Plate Reader permits on all state roads.

That is roughly 700 Flock Cameras that will be removed.

Florida is ordering Flock cameras removed from state roads over privacy concerns, following a review by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration.— Leading Report (@LeadingReport) August 31, 2026

The order from DeSantis has instructed agencies that all license plate readers will need to be removed from state roads by the end of September. Notably, the declaration does not apply to any cameras installed by city or county agencies.

“Exponential increase in deployments coupled with concerning reports of misuse, data privacy concerns and surveillance schemes,” a letter from the Florida Department of Transportation reads.

Flock cameras have become a major area of concern for many voters, with some complaining that their use is a violation of privacy and has the potential for abuse. One case on Flock misuse went viral this week after it was revealed that a Florida-based deputy used Flock cameras to track an ex-romantic partner.

DeSantis joins a growing number of Republican officials leading a crackdown against Flock, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has ordered a halt to all funding for Flock programs.

AI Overview:

Hyderabad, India and several major cities in China rank as the most surveilled cities in the world by CCTV camera density per capita.

NOTE: All types of CCTV Cameras, that is

India and China 🤔🤔🤔

or even heard of the Book of Revelation

I’d love to see a rumor started saying that anyone could take those cameras down. It’s Florida…

Remember the name Ryan Routh ?? He was the nutjob that hid out near the golf course and tried to kill Donald Trump.

He was caught in a matter of minutes using Flock Cameras.

I wonder if getting rid of Flock Cameras because of the abuses is worth overriding the good that comes from the use of the technology.

People need to be educated about Axon as well.

My midsized Florida city has 104. 700 across the state is small beans.

Yeah I was thinking about that

But still 700 devices recording

Based on your number I guessed maybe 10,000 in the state

Haha

So I looked

AI Overview:

There are around 10,000 known automated license plate reader cameras, including Flock devices, operating across Florida.

County roads like W and Jackson Streets (Pensacola) and places like the Blackwater Heritage Trail (Milton) will apparently be left untouched.

Even better is we should allow the government unawareness searches in every home in America, think of all the good that would happen, so many criminals and precrime would be stopped.

If just one life is saved it is worth right

Right..??

How about NO. Life can never be free of risk, constant surveillance is not the answer. Government has and will always abuse such power, our constitution limits government, it is not wise to provide unlimited access to everyone’s business.

The devil is in the details.

They’re removing FLOCK cameras. However, many of them are being replaced with Axon. The surveillance state can’t be crushed. It just migrates around.

How many of those are passive and how many of those are actively scanning and recording data using LPRs and facial recognition, archiving it and making it available to without restriction to the government?

We haven’t established the boundary yet, but there’s such a thing as too much surveillance.

I remember a TV episode of Bull, where his partners found something embarrassing in his past, and he lamented that these days it’s impossible to start over anymore.
