A shootout inside Washington Park left one man dead and nine other people injured Saturday night, according to Chicago police, marking the city’s second-worst shooting of the year.
Chicago police officers were already in the area monitoring a planned gathering in the park near the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when multiple gunmen began shooting around 11:37 p.m., police said. Officers immediately reported “nonstop” gunfire over their radios as people ran for cover.
“They’re still shooting,” one officer said as the gunfire continued.
Officers quickly called for ambulances and began providing advanced first aid to the injured. Police also arrested one man at the scene and recovered a firearm, although it was not immediately clear whether he had fired any shots.

The shooting is the second-largest in Chicago this year by number of victims, behind only a June 19 shooting in Roseland that left 14 people injured. In that case, at least two gunmen in a vehicle opened fire on a large crowd in the 200 block of West 95th Street, according to preliminary police information. Witnesses told police that a red SUV pulled alongside the crowd and two gunmen opened fire, with one shooting from the driver’s side and another from the passenger’s side. More than 100 shell casings were recovered, according to police. The gunmen fled eastbound on 95th Street, police said. No charges have been announced.

A “picnic” at 11:30 PM??????????????????????????????
This may sound silly, but the Glock switch saves lives.
One long burst empties the magazine in one direction very quickly. After the first round is fired, all accuracy is lost. It sux to be in that immediate target area but everywhere else is unaffected.

The nice about chicongo is that you don’t have to trek to the zoo to see the wild animals.
Oh my, how usual
One again, the anti-gun crowd is robbed of a badly needed optic.
My first thought as well . . . especially having lived in Hyde Park back in the 70s. (Although I’m sure the neighborhood has improved somewhat since then . . . sar/)
Looks like Chicago’s gun death toll may exceed last year’s - and, the shots are getting more accurate.
Something for Mayor Brandon to be proud of:
Year to Date (vs 2025)
Shot & Killed: 228 (+8%)
Shot & Wounded: 908 (-4%)
Total Shot: 1136 (-1%)
Total Homicides: 262 (+1%)
How true.
No need to look.
............Officers quickly called for ambulances and began providing advanced first aid to the injured.............
But, did the cops shoot back?????
Pair a Glock switch with the ghetto grip and you ain’t hittin nuthin, Homey.

Map shows a black history museum there in the park.
The DuSable Museum of African American History .
“Shootout leaves 1 dead, 9 injured at Washington Park {Chicago} picnic”. Nothing to see here ladies and gentlemen, just another weekend in the combat zone, the free fire zone.
Ants are nothing ,LOL
Quiet weekend in Chicago? Maybe everyone is saving their ammo for Labor Day weekend.
The Obama library is on the right side of your map east of Stony Island Ave.
Once again, the usual suspects!
The Brother man be just starting his day!
Does that museum have a display on Black on Black violence?
Unpossible. Strict gun laws for law abiding citiz.........oh.
