A taxpayer-funded study of children and young adults taking puberty blockers and hormone treatments found no improvement in youth mental health.
The Oversight Project, a watchdog group, obtained the final report of “The Impact of Early Medical Treatment in Transgender Youth” and shared it with the Daily Signal.
The National Institutes of Health first allocated a nine-year grant of up to $10 million for the study through the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. The study was led by Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy, who specializes in “gender-affirming care.”
The study included people as young as 8 years old. The sample receiving puberty blockers included participants up to age 16, while the sample receiving hormone treatments included participants up to age 20.
“Over 2 years of medical intervention that started with blockers, mental health remained relatively stable and was on par with the population at large,” the final report says. “These youth showed no worsening of their mental or emotional health and suicidality decreased from baseline to 24 months. Mean scores on mental health measures remain stable in a clinically non-significant range over two years.”
The longstanding argument for advocates of “transing” minors has been that not doing so could cause depression or suicide among youth.
The report’s release has been long awaited. The New York Times first reported in late 2024 that the study of almost 100 children would not be published because Olson-Kennedy feared the findings would be “weaponized.”
The report said that “at baseline, about half of these youths had clinically concerning scores for depression and anxiety. About two-thirds reported having thoughts of suicide, and about one-quarter reported having attempted suicide.”
Though it added that two years showed “increased scores for life satisfaction,” and decreased levels of depression and anxiety.
“The argument has been that this improves mental health,” Dr. Kurt Miceli, the chief medical officer at Do No Harm, which opposes gender changes for children, said. “ … The narrative by advocates has been that this is lifesaving treatment.”
He noted that a separate 2023 New England Journal of Medicine article referenced two minors observed in a study who committed suicide.
The recently released study noted that “Denominator for retention (expected visits) does not include participants who withdrew consent, passed away, or have not reached the end of their extended follow-up window.” But it does not say how the youths “passed away,” Miceli noted.
“Two suicides were reported in a previous study, but downplayed,” Miceli said. “It’s important for science and important to patients to know.”
Oversight Project Director of State Litigation Neal Cornett said the report confirms what most already know, which is that “treating troubled youth with puberty blockers and hormone treatments does nothing to improve their mental health.” freestar
“As a country, we should err on the side of caution before embarking on this type of medical intervention with minors,” Cornett told the Daily Signal.
Notably, it was an observational study, so the procedures involving participants as young as 8 years old were not conducted as a result of NIH funding.
The study also found potential affects on youth bone density, reproductive health, and height. Further, the researchers noted they sought “additional youth of color” to precipitate in the study.
The Oversight Project contends the release of the documents is a good first step, but the public should know more about the “Transgender Industrial Complex” and the medical impacts it’s having on children and adolescents.

But, doesn’t everyone need mental health intervention? (As pushed by mental health “professionals”.) If you’re not seeking counsel, that just proves you need it. There are those that need it but....... 🤔🖕

Does anyone remember all those years that the parenting messaging was about the sexes being a myth caused by social conditioning, so many parents followed the parenting instructions to buy tonka trucks for their girls and dolls for their sons?
I knew that many children would be mentally affected by the crossdressing and forced forms of play that went against their instincts, why isn’t that connected to all this new “trans” stuff?
Was it only in the last 1 to 3 years that Target stores were making the toy sections gender neutral?
Initially, I thought this was a UK study. But this is a US government study????? That is shocking. The US medical community is so ideologically captured that I didn’t think a study like this ever could be produced by a prominent US governmental or other medical organization.
So now its clear that all these kids who permanently damaged themselves by injecting these drugs and having surgery to improve their mental health did no such thing. Who is getting arrested for that monstrous crime? Anyone? Anyone?
They are poisoning our children but hey they needed 10 million of our taxpayer’s money to find that out. this guberment is out of control.

I think it was Dr. Spock who wrote wildly successful and stupid books on how to raise a child. As I recall, he didn’t have a child when writing the books and later in an interview after he’d raised his kids said something like, “Yeah, I had no idea what I was talking about.” It reminds me of “new math” and “learning with phonics” two ridiculous ways of teaching because rote learning was bad...somehow. People who have no clue but do have a PhD and a talk show are running out lives and our politics. Throw in the medical industry, never known for ethics and life gets stupid pretty fast. I remember my mother saying, “You can lie to anyone, but if you lie to yourself you begin to twist reality into unrecognizable shapes.” So, yeah, Jonny thinks he’s a girl so the school, who won’t give him an aspirin without his parent’s permission will secretly start “transitioning” him.

It does not improve mental health, to interfere with the normal maturing process that everyone, both males and females, go through?
But we are told puberty blockers are important, because if we don’t do medical intervention on so call transgender youth, they’re going to kill themselves.
The liberals are not going to like a study such as this.

I never had any as a kid, but there were all sorts of male action figures available. They were all super “jacked” men with unrealistic bodies. The girls had Barbie, also an unrealistic body. I probably can’t predict how I would have “identified” with a toy at this point. But I’m certain I never thought my internal view of who or what I was as affected by whatever toy I played with. I pictured the fire engine racing to a fire, but not me as a fireman.
It wasn’t just a toy in the mix, it was a determined policy of parenting to have the boys in a total girl toy world and the girls in a total boy toy world, the purpose was to avoid the overcome the social stereotyping that the liberals felt created the ‘artificial’ difference between male and female.
I felt there was no doubt that we would see the mental issues coming from that trend.
As far as Barbie being unrealistic, I married a Barbie, thick and plush golden hair, bluish/green eyes, moderately tall and measurements of 36-22-34, very close to Barbie’s 5’9” and measurements of 36-18-33.
I would rather have my children unhappy and depressed than puberty-blocked. Children will be happier if they are raised by intact families with traditional Christian values and taught to avoid rotten peer groups.
I’m curious to know what percentage of children put on the “gender treatment” track have “mental illness” as assessed by standard medical practices. It’s probably less than 100%, since some of the patients are just the subjects of experiments by their deluded mothers/parents.
Though the article doesn’t say it, it is implicit that the children in the study had pre-existing mental issues (as in, how/why would they be measuring “improvement in mental condition” if the mental condition was “normal” to begin with?).
Was real mental health treatment withheld from the subjects for TWO YEARS? This seems like medical malpractice, much like the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, where black men with syphilis were denied penicllin so scientists could watch them deteriorate.
Any sane person would know this. Our youth are subjected to psych medical experimentation. Sickiatrists and Sickologists are behind. Two entirely evil professions populated entirely with charlatans.
The article is based on a study titled “The Impact of Early Medical Treatment in Transgender Youth.” Specifically, it draws from the study’s final Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR), which closes out a completed medical research grant (your tax dollars at work).The original article based on that final RPPR correctly stated that puberty blockers and hormone treatments produced no improvement in the mental health of the youth involved.
I searched Google in an attempt to locate the final published article—the peer-reviewed version available through the National Library of Medicine. Keep in mind: medical treatment of transgender youth showed no improvement in their mental health. Contrast that with Google’s AI response:
