Frames federal election integrity push as ‘federal overreach’
California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Wednesday launched another lawsuit against the Trump administration, this time targeting a U.S. Postal Service final rule on mail ballots. and invited the public to watch him sell it as a defense of “election integrity.”
The post quoted his earlier announcement that California and allied states were “suing to block USPS’ rule restricting mail-in voting.”
Join me at 9:30 AM for an important update on California’s efforts to fight back against unlawful federal overreach and protect election integrity.

The official statement published by Bonta reveals that he is co-leading a coalition of 24 attorneys general with Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, and Washington Attorney General Nick Brown, Bonta filed in federal court in Massachusetts and sought a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is among the coalition members joining the action.
The complaint argues the USPS rule, published in advance of the November midterms, is unconstitutional, contrary to statute, and without legal authority because it lets the Postal Service reject ballot mail, compile “enrolled” mail-voter lists, and impose new envelope and barcode requirements.
“This mail-in voting rule is an unlawful overreach that shows just how far President Trump will go to control elections, but as I’ve said before, this fight is far from over and we are confident that the facts and the law are on our side,” Bonta said in the press release.
“On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to fully close the door on the President’s attempt to interfere in our election administration. Today, we’re taking legal action to stop this unlawful rule in its tracks and ensure that voters can exercise their constitutional right to vote. Let’s be clear: the U.S. Constitution gives states the power to regulate elections — not the President and not USPS. Ballots are an extension of our voices and we’re asking the court to ensure that every person has the right to make theirs heard.”
Gov. Gavin Newsom piled on: “Donald Trump does not run elections. States do. And his latest attack on democracy is proof of how weak he has become.”
On Monday, the Supreme Court granted a stay that allowed implementation of key pieces of Trump’s March elections executive order after finding the states’ earlier challenge was premature because USPS had not yet issued a final rule.
As the Globe reported Tuesday, that order was a procedural win for the White House and a warning shot to Sacramento. The rule, implementing Section 3 of Executive Order 14399, would require states to enroll mail voters with USPS, use redesigned ballot envelopes, and accept that ballots not matching USPS lists or specifications may not be delivered.
In a state that mails a ballot to every registered voter and relies on vote-by-mail for the vast majority of turnout, Bonta’s office calls that a “catastrophe for voting rights.”
What election integrity? You’re fighting to preserve non-citizens’ access to mail ballots.
I’ve never seen a state AG fight this hard to shield fraudsters and illegals from accountability. Imagine if he used his efforts to protect citizens. https://t.co/SvgBfRcquU

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli responded: “What election integrity? You’re fighting to preserve non-citizens’ access to mail ballots. I’ve never seen a state AG fight this hard to shield fraudsters and illegals from accountability. Imagine if he used his efforts to protect citizens.”
Bonta fired back: “Once again, the First Assistant U.S. Attorney conveniently omits a key fact: the Trump Administration’s USPS rule that would severely restrict mail-in voting remains blocked in California and 23 other states through the upcoming November 3, 2026 general election. My office is proudly co-leading that case.”

Them ‘49ers have to ride a donkey 800 miles to register to vote.
If we can’t use mail ballots, it will be more difficult to cheat. That’s not fair to Democrats.
So the I guess SC is not the SC if they rule against the rats. The rat AG’s have crossed a line here. This is tossing two centuries of law right out the window. There should not be mail voting in the first place.
.
There should be no non-citizens on the rolls of voters for federal elections. Congress controls naturalization, i.e. getting voting rights.
SCOTUS ruled that the states have no “standing” to challenge the law, and maybe no has “standing” to challenge it. It’s always a mystery what that means.
The answer is quite simple. Don’t use the USPS to send and return ballots.
Words don’t mean anything to them. “Voter Rights” sounds innocuous. But they mean something completely different than any reasonable person.
They can hold any number of completely nonsensical, contradictory ideas at the same time. “It’s Illegal For Non-Citizens to Vote”
Plus, they would never do that.
They don’t vote
Well maybe they vote a little, but it doesn’t affect the outcome.
Well maybe the vote a lot, but it’s a great thing, etc.
The fact they are screeching like wounded eagles over even modest election security measures means the cheat has been epic for decades.
“Donald Trump does not run elections. States do”
Gov. Gavin Newsom
Trump runs the USPS and he’s not going to assist in mail fraud or any other violation of federal law.
Trump’s order is simply making it easier for states to clean up their voting role by reducing the number of citizenship checks the supervisors of elections would have to do, and should have already done.
Groups of teachers might be authorized under state law to walk around town the Saturday before Election Day and pick up ballots.
The local firemen aren’t typically doing anything. They might be authorized under state law to deliver ballots, and collect them.
Hello, Mr. Rural Carrier, would you like to earn a few extra bucks?
Remember, the people who take up the mantra “no human being’s illegal” are the same people who block any and all attempts at making voting legitimate.
We can all put 2+2 together, and we all know why they block it, but the MSM and the democrats cannot.
What is election integrity? How about postal system integrity? The requirement that envelopes be barcoded makes perfect sense. It helps to track the mail as it snakes through the system, and abnormalities in the volume (dumps) and timing, as well as the route through the system, may help to identify fraud.
Arrest that person, try him/her for treason and hang him/her.
Absolutely. Which MEANS, they have been trying to overthrow the government. It IS treason. DO SOMETHING!
HALT ALL MAIL IN VOTING===NO MORE TWISTED ARGUMENTS
MORE SIMPLE: NO MORE MAIL IN BALLOTS-—PERIOD
It is all they have.
“Donald Trump does not run elections. States do”
Gov. Gavin Newsom
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
Section 2 of the 14th Amendment, wrongly ignored by the corrupt uniparty imo, clearly gives the federal government the power to police election integrity. So Newsom is evidently clueless about (blatantly ignores?) constitutionally justified federal government oversight in state-run elections.
In fact, note the zero tolerance "hair triggers" in that section that the Supremes, Pence and the J6 Congress wrongly ignored imo when lawmakers voted to accept Biden's questionable electoral votes in 2020 despite allegations of vote-counting problems.
is denied to any
or in any way abridged,
Section 2 of 14A: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote at any election [all emphases added] for the choice of electors for President and Vice President of the United States, Representatives in Congress, the Executive and Judicial officers of a State, or the members of the Legislature thereof, is denied to any of the male inhabitants of such State, being twenty-one years of age, and citizens of the United States, or in any way abridged, except for participation in rebellion, or other crime, the basis of representation therein shall be reduced in the proportion which the number of such male citizens shall bear to the whole number of male citizens twenty-one years of age in such State. [Apportionment of Representatives]
Section 5 of 14A: The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
what a massive, criminal waste of taxpayer money.
That is simply the truth.
