The mastermind of the 9/11 attacks and three other terrorists being held in Guantánamo Bay will finally stand trial in 2028, a military judge ruled Wednesday.

The ruling from Lt. Col. Michael Schrama came just two weeks before the 25th anniversary of the world-altering attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the head plotter, and three of his alleged co-conspirators have been held at the Cuba military base since 2003 in the long-delayed case.

He's 61 years now. What are the chances he lives a long life and dies before he ever gets convicted, which means by U.S. law he's not guilty. Is there really an excuse why this needed to take more than a quarter of a century.

Dare I ask what has delayed his trial all these years?

Why is he still wasting oxygen? After finding out he was the mastermind, he should have been found guilty and taken to the nearest tree and hanged, years ago.

There are probably many reasons, but one of the most contentious is that evidence was legally compromised case because of the CIA’s torture and interrogation program. I guess they wanted to get info about future terrorist attacks, so they weren’t as careful about how they got the evidence.

I was going to ask why this has not happened before, but who was willing to do it? Not any DOJ under the last several presidents. Even Trump, in his first term, couldn’t do it. Not because he wouldn’t want to, but because he had no support from his DOJ or Congress.

Congress has no input in the court system. No one needs Congressional approve to prosecute.

Under Bush II (8 years) they were trying to get Intel from him. In his best interest to delay, obfuscate, and lie drag it out as long as possible. Under Obama well its Obama (8 years). Trump (4 years) first time, you’d have to ask Trump. I’ll give him benefit of the doubt and say he had other more pressing matters. Under Biden we’re lucky he didn’t get appointed to an ambassadorship.

In related news, US Army Major Nidal Hasan (a Muslim) shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood back in 2009.

Hasan was sentenced to death. Yet he still breathes. Yet he still soaks up taxpayer dollars. Where is Trump on this?

Say what you want about FDR. But he would have not let Hasan live on for more than a few months.

I would like to humanely amputate his arms and legs, and while he watched roast then on an open fire and then feed the BBQ to pigs and dogs. afterwards I’d like to roast his carcass and feed that to hungrier pigs and dogs.
I would the. Feed the pigs to other moslem inmates and train the dogs to be guards at Gitmo.

He should have been taken down to the dump and shot when he was captured. Now we’re going to have a circus trial.

Well, technically it wouldn't have been all eight years under Bush, since he wasn't even obtained until 2003. I also don't think there are more pressing matters. 9/11 was a serious event in U.S. history and anyone involved needs to be held to account. It's criminal this was delayed this long.

Also, the U.S. first indicted KSM in 1996 for the Bojinko incident. But they have decided not to prosecute him on that, even though they convicted his accomplices. They should have gone after the low hanging fruit.

Presidents are head of the executive branch, where prosecutors are. You really think prosecutors are totally unaccountable and can do whatever they want?
