Jason Arday’s memoir will be released in the UK as planned, his publisher has confirmed.

Simon & Schuster announced that Great And Unfortunate Things would be published on Thursday, two weeks after the academic was found dead at his home in south London.

Mr Arday had resigned as professor of sociology of education at the University of Cambridge on Aug 5 after allegations of plagiarism and questions about elements of his life story emerged. He was the youngest black professor in Cambridge’s history.

Wow. I’m not sure there’s a big market for this, outside the truly insane who are portraying him as a victim. And then there’s the issue of whether it goes in the fiction or nonfiction shelf

What the publisher may be counting on is AI. When paper libraries are destroyed, and all history comes from AI, Arday will be a complete hero. And a martyr, too.

—”the truly insane who are portraying him as a victim. the truly insane who are portraying him as a victim.”

He is, in fact, a victim.

Of some true genius who promoted him, and they should be found and publicly caned repeatedly.

This is the intersection of the Peter Principle and DEI.

He had a created coauthor, Eve Claxton, which is how most celebrity memoirs are written, including Hillary Clinton’s, though hers were uncredited. Writing takes discipline and training, which most people lack. I somewhat doubt that Arday had the discipline or intellect to create an even moderately conherent book. Claxton would just skillfully recast the plaigarized material in her own words, trying to retain Professor (at the time) Arday’s voice. Claxton is certainly a skillful and proven writer.

so, does the “memoir” include his hundreds of fantabulous claims of “accomplishments”? ... “accomplishments” like running 666 marathons in six days on a broken leg? ... or is it the “cleaned up” version, that omits his hundreds of impossible “accomplishments”?

asking for a friend ...

Simon & Schuster fell for his BS and gave him an advance, when they realized the dude was a complete fake there was no way to claw back the money. So their decision to publish is an attempt to recover some of their investment. They may do OK given the turn of events and the rabid lefty chorus wanting a martyr.

Didn’t he claim to be a professional snooker player at age 11?
