SEATTLE - Starbucks has filed a notice with the state announcing details on a layoff of more than 200 corporate employees at its headquarters in SoDo.
According to economics experts, the workforce reduction stems from two distinct groups within the company.
Who's impacted by the layoffs What we know: Joseph Phillips, Professor of Economics at Seattle University, says the first group includes around 120 information technology workers who chose not to relocate to Starbucks' new corporate office in Nashville.
He says the second group is made up of employees who worked on Starbucks' store design.

Useless redundant hires.
Even the most leftist company understands business.
I wonder if the mayor of Seattle will call for another boycott of Starbucks!
We need to keep Starbucks open-they provide employment opportunities for womyen studies majors.
Tax the wealthy and watch them move out.

Lots of IT jobs in Seattle! Pro-business Mayor Katie Wilson is making sure of that.
Every job I had in private sector was from wealthy owners. A middle class person never hired me.
AI involved here? Not mentioned though.
I live close to Nashville and its economy is a huge job market for our area. I cheer every time a lib state attacks business. Nashville has turned blue but the state is reining them in.
Starbucks and Nashville. It’s going to take me a while to get used to that combination.
Way back in the ‘60’s as I registered to vote and the draft my Dad said to me…. “you’ll never get a job from a poor guy, remember that when you pull the lever”
I never forgot it.
Thanks Dad.
30% office building vacancy rate - the highest vacancy rate for any major metro area in the USA.
Within the last six months, we have elected a Socialist Party female Mayor, whose total work experience is Political Organizer.
Within the last six months, voters approved a state wide millionaires income tax, which explicitly violates the state constitution, which says all residents are required to pay the same percentage income tax - which is currently 0%.
Bye, bye, millionaires and billionaires!
Let’s hope the coffee starts to taste better.
RE: 120 information technology workers who chose not to relocate to Starbucks’ new corporate office in Nashville.
This seems to be a trend, Northeast and Western based companies relocating to the south. It happened to me when my company moved its data center to Florida. My daughter’s company several years ago moved its operations to Plano, Texas. Although I don’t like it, I can understand as it is increasingly difficult for companies to make a profit operating in the Northern and Western parts of the country.
In both the cases I mentioned, we ( me and my daughter ), had to decline and find another job because our family situation did not make it plausible to move.
Unfortunately for some of the workers they could be stuck in Seattle for various family reasons. It’s probably not that there’s something wrong with Nashville.

They provide employment opportunities for more than those degree seekers.
My daughter worked for Dunkin’ for over a year. No benefits, and no tips built into the POS systems, so her paychecks were pretty dinky.
About 6 months ago, she was hired at our local Starbucks, and received a much higher starting salary, plus digital, cash, and POS tips, while also earning sick time hours for every shift she works. She pulls between $150.00 and $250.00 every paycheck just on tips.
Not only that, Starbucks matches 5% of her contributions into her 401k or 401k Roth account on EVERY paycheck, and she has 100% vesting ownership of that immediately. She’s contributing the full 5%.
She may not be making tons of money, but they pay and treat their employees better than most coffee shops or local fast food chains.
Get the hell out of Seattle Starbucks!!
“... employees who worked on Starbucks’ store design.”
Starbucks stores are like iPhones, if they look like a monkey’s butt people will love it still.

Just out of curiosity . . . Was your daughter’s Dunkin’ franchise run by Indians / South Asians? I ask because when I lived in Chicago it seemed most of the Dunkin’ outlets were run by immigrants and, unless they had a white employee or two to man the mop bucket and empty the trash, the places were usually less than spic-’n-span. But the coffee was good and much less expensive than Starbucks.
