Supreme Court temporarily allows White House ballroom construction to continue

Washington — The Supreme Court on Friday temporarily allowed construction of the White House ballroom to continue, freezing for now a lower court decision that would have halted work on the project.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued a stay that will remain in place until the Supreme Court takes further action. His order is temporary and gives the high court additional time to consider the Justice Department's request to pause a district court's injunction, which was set to take effect at midnight unless the Supreme Court acted.

The docket reads:

“Order entered by The Chief Justice: Upon consideration of the application of counsel for the applicants, the response, and the reply filed thereto, it is ordered that the preliminary injunction entered on April 16, 2026, by the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, case No. 1:25-cv-4316, is hereby stayed pending further order of The Chief Justice or of the Court.”

Lower courts rule based on the “Trump exception” to all laws, legal precedent, and the Constitution.

“Temporarily”? Maybe until the week or two after the ballroom has been finished! Lol.
Mr. Trump is a good lobbiest for causes close to his heart.
He practically banged Supreme Court Justice Robert’s desk with his fist, and demanded support from the Court.

How much does TDS cost for the ballroom?

For each contractor involved, list in a spreadsheet the original bids for the work, the cost of change orders, the cost of delayed acquisition of materials and the additional labor costs due to TDS judges putting parts of the project on hold. Wonder what that would add up to?

the people who sued have no standing to sue.

The case should have been thrown out long ago

Well, I pay taxes, so it’s my business. Congress allocates money, so it’s their business, and I voted for all of the above and paid the money all of the above are using.

Does Trump have private money involved? For sure. Is it 100% private money. Absolutely no chance. And the government employees that have to be around the whole time the contractors are on site and guarding the construction site 24/7, etc., are on my payroll as well - and private money CANNOT pay them - by law.

Is Trump using public money that is legitimately within his discretion to spend this way? I think the evidence argues this is so. Is it legally challengeable? Certainly. That’s why we’re here.

Am I pissed the work is being slowed down? You betcha. Am I pissed we have a legal system? Hell no.

Will Trump complete construction while the continuation is in place, so that this all becomes moot? I sure hope so.

“Allows” always irks me. Like the Judicial is some omnipotent force. They can render a ruling one way or another. It’s up the the Executive branch to enforce (ie allow) or not enforce (ie not allow). And it’s up to the Legislative branch to impeach if they don’t like it. If the courts decide not to allow the construction are they going to send the Supreme Court Police Force out to the site to start chaining up backhoes and hauling in foremen?

They don't like him. As far as they're concerned, they would tear down the White House to get back at President Trump.

He created a beautiful granite path to a new helipad, and White House seal with huge letters and flagpoles. All built with private donated money, not taxpayer money. Sikorsky Aircraft paid and built the granite helipad area. A lawn care company paid and built the lawn areas around it. Other companies paid for tiling and other work. Trump himself paid his money for a lot of the work.

All the Democrats are good for, is stealing taxpayer money for themselves and worthless causes. President Trump is looking out for our common interests.

Probably true. Let’s hope SCOTUS gets there - if Trump doesn’t finish first.

President doesn’t have power of the purse.

He can’t just dream up projects and toss them onto the taxpayer.

So you think every construction project the government does is individually funded and approved by Congress?
