Americans visiting beaches, neighborhood pools, summer camps, and resorts this summer are likely to encounter foreign workers...These workers are in the United States on J-1 exchange visas - a program the State Department promotes as an instrument of cultural exchange and public diplomacy.

"About 75 percent of the 275,000 J-1 visas issued in 2025 went to workers, while only about 25 percent went to more traditional exchange programs."
"J-1 summer exchange workers are supposed to head home soon, but thousands will ignore the rules and overstay, joining the illegal population."
“thousands will ignore the rules and overstay, joining the illegal population.”
I never heard of this program before. There must be no end to them. Abolish the program and send them all home. Permanently.
“a program the State Department promotes as an instrument of cultural exchange..”
I think we have had quite enough of that. A bellyful, to be exact.
I have a tragic story around a family brought over from Eastern Europe to work at a grocery store.
My relative worked there and they lived so meagerly.
The working father had been a doctor, behind the Iron Curtain. Here he was, in his 60s, laboriously working away putting goods up through the night, on shelves.
Months after this relative got to know them, my relative was told by his wife that she would be willing to divorce her husband, if it meant he could stay—as her husband. My relative was in her late 20s.
I saw her crying over that, each time she brought it up.
On a different occasion, I found out my waitress at a restaurant in the Wisconsin Dells was on tgis sort of visa. She was also from Eastern Europe. She lived with other in a tiny apartment and had no vacation time or insurance, as I understood it.
Those visas are a brutal existence and seem managed by shady foreign companies registered here, but demanding of large cuts of anyone’s checks.
It’s a scam.
I believe J-1 visa holder has to go home to their country and stay for at least 2 year and during that time cannot apply for permanent visa (such as green card).
Employers don’t pay SSN on these foreign kids. So, they are cheaper than US kids.
This is just a “wink and a nod” to get a foreigner through customs when they get off the plane. They are lying about the numbers coming in because it is so profitable. And when you try to find how many leave the country, well they don’t track that. So theoretically none of them ever leave. Republicans figure that a lot of the payroll savings will be donated to the republican party. Democrats know these people will eventually vote for democrats. So everybody wins. It is like a perpetual motion machine.
“There must be no end to them.”
I counted 66 on their website.
This is hardly new. I recall going to Hershey Park in the early 2000s and seeing a ton of Eastern European kids working the concessions and operating the rides. I originally thought these were just summer jobs for local kids... I learned, later on, that they were admitted under a visa program, likely the J1.
It’s a shame that they’re giving foreigners jobs that should be open to local kids and young adults.
I’ve worked with many hundred and been around many more “J1”s. Almost without exception they’ve been good, friendly, outgoing and hard working. I persomally only know of two who have overstayed, it was stupid and they paid the price.
I know of several who married Americans and as far as I know they’re both happy. I have known several who have returned for the full 3 tours permitted and several more who after finishing their studies went to work for American companies in their country.
Right now we have one girl from Comminust China working near me. She has confided in me and asked me to teach her about American ways. She admitted the other day that hearing somebody critizing the Goverment scared her because she was standing near them. She is totally amazed at the freedoms we have.
I live in a small town, all in all I find it refreshing to see new faces and enjoyable to speak with foreign young people. This program isn’t perfect but it’s one of the better programs the Government offers.
You are correct, two years after they return home.
The J1ers are here to culturally enrich, rape and murder the men, women and children Americans simply will not.
The J1ers are here to culturally enrich both countries, we can agree in that ay least for the most part.
You claim “to rape and murder the men, women and children Americans simply will not....” I’ve delt with J1s for over 20 years, show me the facts you have to support your BULL SHIT!
“I counted 66 on their website.”
Incredible!
Do you have specific cases to show this is true?
I think FB needs a lot more “Put up or shut up!” posts these days. Thanks.
There is no official or exact public number for how many Chinese spies are in the U.S. on J-1 exchange visas. While U.S. authorities and congressional committees have noted that the J-1 research scholar and student visa programs can be targeted for intelligence gathering, intelligence agencies do not categorize or quantify active foreign spies by specific visa type.

No more cheap labor. Your virtue signaling is not victimless.
How easily we throw Americans under the bus for cheap labor.
Six Flags Over Texas in Agawam, Mass, had Polish youths working for them several years back. They housed them at a former nursing home in Springfield, Mass.
